Re: New boy on the block!
So my first rear wheel kit has arrived. What do people do about cleaning up the vulcanised rubber on the rim edges?
Is it a case of cutting off with a scalpel. Would like to have paint on the outside edges

Re: New boy on the block!
Snap! Looks like we got the same, my tyre looks okay but you seem to have an excess of rubber, there is a thread on here somewhere I have read about being careful trimming the edges. Looked and can't find it and the reason why, might be worth having a trawl through before going for it!

Re: New boy on the block!
Many thanks. I will trim and seal with liquid rubber if necessary then. On my wheel, the rubber actually completely covers the side face of the rim and in places is even on the inner rim

Re: New boy on the block!
Got around to painting this week and whilst waiting for things to dry i thought i'd start on Kit 4, cleaned up the spokes then got reading the instructions and yet again i was very disappointed and let down. It talks about identifying the different spokes which i did but reading on it mentions Type1 (BU20407), it never mentions it again and it doesn't show them on the ISO, is this a typo or am i having a moment.
I have been modelling for nigh on 40 years now and made many models from every maker including Steam Engines from Roundhouse Engineering and have never seen instructions like these before, it really lets STW down.

Hi Nigel
You do seem to be having a lot of problems with the instructions however I have noticed that this is not the first time you have missed some thing in the text.
Kit 7
Kit 8
and now kit 4
hmmm

Re: New boy on the block!
Thanks but i'm not having trouble with the coal bunker in Kit7 it is Kit 4 and the spokes. I don't seem to have the ISO you have pictured, did that come with Kit4?

Re: New boy on the block!
Better check my instructions as well in the morning.
So far only got as far as cleaning up the wheel and etch priming.
Tomorrow it’s time to get rid of the mill scale on the spokes

Re: New boy on the block!
Hi everyone
I apologies for the confusion. I will be having words with our packer. Even if I were to print the incorrect ISO drawings for her (which is unlikely as the ISO's, Packing lists and Instructions for the 2" are all kept in the same folder and the ones for the 4" being in a different folder), they still have put the instruction packs together by hand, and so I would assume that it would bring up a red flag when the ISO drawing says BU4 rather than BU2 (BU4 being the code for the 4" and BU2 being the code for the 2"). Could those of you who need the correct ISO drawings sending contact me or Rosemary by email, and we will get them sent across to you (my email is will@steamtractionworld.co.uk and Rosemary's is Admin@steamtractionworld.co.uk).
Many thanks everyone and apologies for the inconvenience.

Re: New boy on the block!
Wheel together and I am now at the messy Araldite stage.
The only real issue I have encountered is that when I came to test fit the Hub Outer Cover, the Hub Cap and Drive Pin Peg holes have not been tapped.
The Hub Cap holes need to be 8BA but cannot glean from Packing List what the Drive Pin Peg hole should be. Will try a few nuts on it
Oh and I also shortened the M4x8 CSK bolts by a couple of mm on the inner side of the hub to ensure they sat flush and held the spokes tightly. Did not appear to be an issue on the other side as the holes were deeper.

Re: New boy on the block!
Got time to dry fit the wheel today, so glad you noticed the missing threads on the Outer Rear Hub for the Drive Peg and Hub Cap, checked mine and it is the same as yours, will have to send it back, it could have been messy if i'd glued it on to the Hub.Thanks.

Re: New boy on the block!
Thanks Adam that's very kind. I have no dealings with such things and i paid for them to be right so i'll leave it to STW.

Re: New boy on the block!
Received the Outer Hub reworked back today, all well.
Got Kit 5 also, the rubber on the tyre is over the inner rim and some of the rivets have been attacked by an angle grinder, so it look like i'm trimming and filling as most of you have had to do.

Re: New boy on the block!
Bet you are glad to get those finished and out of the way. I assembled and primed one and then I stalled. Been busy doing other jobs. So will probably come back to them in the depths of winter
