Cylinder Block
Evening all, Ive just started my cylinder block. Can anyone tell me if you get cladding, for the side of the block, where the whistle goes? I can see, from other photos, on here, you get two brass strips, for front and back of the side.
Why I ask, is the finish of that side of my block, is very uneven and wondered if I need to file it to get it more even.

Re: Cylinder Block
As above. It comes with the rest of the cladding later on. Don't worry to much about the machined finish on that side as it will be covered by the cladding.
Be warned though. As published on my thread you will have to cut down the brass screws and or run a ba tap down the threads in the block before fitting the cladding and brass strips. I snapped my tap inside the block and it was a (insert appropriate expletive) to get out.

Morning, thanks to all of you that replied.
I did think you got cladding for that side of block.
Thanks Jim for that advise, I have already had to run a tap down some of the threads, as they wasnt threaded down the hole, far enough. I do remember reading your thread and seeing photo of the broken tap!
I too have broken a tap, but that was in one of my rear wheel hubs, STW sent me a replacement hub and wheels are done and painted now.
Hope all of you building a 2" are getting on well with your builds and enjoying the challenge

Evening all, can I ask what you what paint you used on your cylinder block?
I can't seem to find a good brush-on heat resistant paint. The ones I have tried are like trying to paint with water!
Your help would be appropriated.

Re: Cylinder Block
Hi Charle,
I used 3 coats of Plastikote satin black oven paint. I sprayed the cylinder casings and covers before i assembled it all, and before i put the various plugs in, then cooked it. It looks good and feels hard wearing.

Thanks to you both for replying.
Mike, how long and with temperature, did you put it in oven for?
I'm a bit concerned about putting the block in the oven. I have, already, put the screw in, plugs in and painted one coat of paint on.
Lynnr, what make was the paint you used, was it "watery like" to paint with?

Re: Cylinder Block
Plastikot (B&Q) stove satin. On to bare metal and yes quite "wattery" a few light coats in quickish order. I did a bit of scrap metal and prodded it until it went tacky then did another coat and repeat until good coverage. No curing done until in steam.
