New boy on the block!
Hi All,
Thought it was a good time to introduce myself whilst we all isolating.
I've read all your posts and thought it was best i put my money where my mind was, so order a 2" Burrell at the beginning of the month, with a little help and advise from Dean and Tony T. Think I've almost built one in my mind but sure it will be more difficult than that!
Still waiting for my first kit to arrive but got all my garage set-up and ready to go.
Should keep me busy over these upcoming month's of uncertainty so get ready for my questions when i get stuck.
Wishing you all are staying well and good luck for the future! Nigel

Re: New boy on the block!
Good news, I just received Kit 1, should keep me quiet for a while. I've been using Swarfega Jizer to clean things up, good stuff and not as caustic as the Cementone without the rust blooming afterwards. It is more pennies but all I could get as nowhere's open and Europarts did free delivery. Nigel

Re: New boy on the block!
Whilst waiting for paint to dry i thought i'd show my progress and try posting photo's
Only trouble i've had was the thread wasn't formed on one of the oiler tubes, wouldn't fit on the hub or the cap wouldn't fit, but Rosemary soon sorted and sent me another. I've got the wheels in undercoat awaiting flattening and Kit 2 finished.

Looking good Nigel. I am in Western Australia so with COVID kits are taking a very long time, had to park the engine up and find something else to do with my time. Hope everyone is safe. Nigel C

Build so far!
Thought i'd post where i'm up to; Fed up waiting for issues to be resolved with Craftmaster paint and STW for bits to be rectified, so i thought i would put together all the bits i had lying about.
Still stuck on Kit 7 but progress okay when all put together.
Put in a box to save it from dust, still waiting for the Large Name Ring. Got some bolts to paint!

Re: New boy on the block!
Had a great day breaking the heads off brass screws today!
Trying to put all kit 8 parts on so i can seal the fender/tank, firstly broke the heads off the 2 screws that fit into the bottom hose bracket, the holes in the fender are well out making the screws go in at an angle, went a few turns before the dreaded creak and broke. secondly ttried to take out the big screw for the Water Lifter and blow me if that didn't break after 2 turns, good job there is fixings with the Water Lifter. Oh what fun!
Thought i'd fit the Large Winch Bracket only to find the screw that goes outermost isn't long enough to go through all the material Gave UP!
Oh well tomorrow is another day!

Re: New boy on the block!
I have had the Tow Straps back from STW, The holes were still well out so any rebending they have done for me didn't right that issue so drilled the holes as Synergyn9 has done.
I have used Cromapol as a sealer for the water tank, was very worried about starting the process but Milford59 put some great photos on his 4" page so put my mind at rest.
All went well and fitted the tank top, was easy as a dry fit but a swine when fitted the second time, used 145 Butyl off eBay for around the inside of the Tank Top so i could put a thick bead around in case of leaks.
Was 3 bolts/screws short so asked Rosemary for some replacements.
Fitted the Hatch cover as instructions but one of the Captive/Clinch nuts came off when screwing it on, Synergyn9 i believe has had the same issue, i am certainly not taking things apart because of it, so JB Welded the bolt in for now, I thinking it wont be a concern for now?
Tender now in primer so relieved and glad those Kits are over, the instructions need a serious look at because i don't think they are adequate at all.

Re: New boy on the block!
Looking good, glad it is all coming right. As you say, we both came across very similar issues.
Now looking forward to a new kit and moving on.... as per recent discussions on this site, instructions for kits 7 & 8 could certainly do with an update as if you are new to the Steam World they assume an awful lot or are very out of date.
Just in the process of painting my tender and last remaining job after that is to nickel plate the winch rollers and fit
Nigncoz, the last issue I hit may also apply to you, looking at your photo. When you come to fit the coal bunker divide, you will find the top holes utilize the beading screws which I had thread locked in place and filed off the ends on the outside. Rather than trying to get the screws out, I filed the top fixing holes away on the dividing plate.

Re: New boy on the block!
Due to Covid, I got Kit 9 (Horn Plates) before kits 7 & 8, so really hoping for a kit with fewer rivets next.

Re: New boy on the block!
Good to see that your engine is progressing well. I'm a bit further ahead on kit 20 now. It's great now that I can see how it will look as a finished engine soon. Anyway, while it was nice to see you've got the tender being painted, take care of your new paint finish. I painted the tender and hornplates as I built them but, it's only in the last 2 months that I have finally got together. To my horror I found the axle cut-out in the tender on both sides wasn't big enough to accommodate the axle housing in the hornplates. The tender needed a far amount of filing and fiddling to fit over the housing (each time I took the tender off I can't tell you how worried I was about my fresh paint being chipped). The other thing I found was the curved top edge on the R/H of the tender that is meant to go under the outside of the 2nd shaft...didn't! Again I had to file more metal off the tender to get it to fit. Had I known all this before, I would have joined the two together much earlier in the build. The photo (if I've done it right) might make it easier to understand. I hope this helps you and good luck with the build.
