How did you do the striping on your wheels in the end?

I got some finesse pinstriping tape in several sizes but way too fiddly and don't believe there is enough room to use a Beugler.

So I guess masking tape and hand painting it is!

Anyone got any tips before I make a mess!

On a separate note, I got my boiler yesterday Very Happy Very Happy Not that I can do much with it until I get the kits 10-12, but a definite milestone in the build

To do the lines i reverted to my plastic modelling days and went for the Tamiya tape, it goes around corners too, if you feel the need.New boy on the block! - Page 3 Img_3821

Kit 9 finished except for the top coat because it looks like i will dismantle it for Kit 10 and probably scratch the paint. Sorry for the blurred photo!!

Having the boiler was a bonus, bet it was an excited unpacking that box!!

Excitement receded quickly when Kit 14 arrived this week, not enough in there to keep me going during the Lockdown Sad

Well having made a bit of a mess of trying to pinstripe the back wheels

New boy on the block! - Page 3 Img_2414
New boy on the block! - Page 3 Img_2415

Following the advice of a fellow forum member, I have bought a Cameo vinyl cutter which allows me to create adhesive stencils.

My first go on the front wheels I think is a big improvement, so guess I will be rubbing the rears down and starting again Embarassed

A while since last post so i thought i'd update, Kit 14 done except for the Fire Door, thought i had put the star washers on correctly on the left hand side but when i put the right hand side on and hit them with a hammer all the left hand side shot off all around the garage never to be seen again.
PM'd Will asking for replacements but no response as of yet Embarassed
The Ashpan all sorted but you have put some M3 nuts on the long bolts that hold it all together, nowt in the instructions, didn't receive them so Will sent some.
Kit 10 just arrived minus the 2nd shaft flange ,guess their short of bits because of the Pandemic so grateful for anything.

I got Kit 14 yesterday, was hoping for Kit 10. Oh well, we are in a pandemic and I fully understand the challenges STW are facing

Re-did the rear wheels and I am now much happier with the result. Glad the wheels are over Very Happy

Stuck on Kit 10 won't come as surprise to some!

The oiler tubes for the caps are about 1mm but supposed to Loctite it in to a 3mm hole, no way will it sit straight.New boy on the block! - Page 3 Img_3824
It also says i need to insert a "Wick" just wool will do. There's no way I'm inserting a piece of wool into a 1mm pipe, is there something that everybody is using? Question

Just noticed this. Panicking now as I just took 5mm off the bolts, so does that now mean that my grate is 5mm too low?

Hopefully still alright

i don't think it will matter, only holds the grate, mine just has bolts sticking out the bottom, aesthetically yours is better i think.

Hi Synergy9

The height of the grate is not important, as long as it is raised from the bottom of the ashpan it will be fine (its only job is to hold the fire, and let the ash fall through into the ashpan, so as long as there is a gap under the grate bars it will do its job).

Many thanks

Hi Mark i've just spent the last 3 days trying to get some wool of all kinds down the 1mm tube but failed miserably, can you give me a clue what you pulled through on the wire please?

I used a strand of copper wire cut from lighting flex . Fold it in half and pass it thru the tube and then open it a little bit and thread a strand of worsted wool thru the eye
Close the eye and gently pull the copper wire out and this will pull the wool in
If you are still having problems PM me with your mobile and I will send pictures if you require
And have a happy new year

Finally got fed up with the wicks so treated myself to a Worsted Wool kit from Heritage Steam Supplies as mentioned in few posts.
The wire was obviously too thick and even the thin wool was. I could only fit 2 strands of the wool (it is made up of 4 strands) down the tube and used the wire Mark suggested.

A few observations on this kit, the Right Hand Bearing Housing was a good 2mm out of the cut-out on the Horn Plate so had to file the Horn Plate and remove 2mm from the side of the Brass Housing, then there was the issue with the Oiler Tubes which was sorted by Will@STW.

I'll add a photo when it stops snowing and i can get to the Garage!

Lets see what this month Kit is. Stay Safe!

Hi Mark, Will@STW sent me a 3mm tube, as big as the hole. Its a little long but cut it down to suit.
