Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Well that's something new.
Photobucket just informed me I am hitting 20G bandwidth limit. Don't worry if you get a message picture instead of my photo. It does reset on the 6th of each month. I have created a new account for new photos and if the bandwidth issue becomes a problem I will spread out the photos.

Hi folks.
Back from my holidays so progress updates and picture will soon be appearing again. Did you like the short video of me riding behind Ex-Mayor at Pickering Steam Fair road run to Thornton-le-Dale while I was staying at Overbrook caravan park. Had an excellent time but did miss Crystal.

15th Aug 2013. Special day. 3 years ago today I got my first kit of a 4" scale Burrell Scenic Showmanship from Steam Traction World.
Now today. Crystal generates power under her own steam!

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Is that your last kit fitted now Lynn? Well done on all the hard work it looks great, and to see it finally generating is wonderful.
Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
I am just waiting for what I think is being classed as a 1/4 kit. The meters and wood support for them.
Then she will have her artwork and sigh writing done over the winter. Just run out of time.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hi tony.
Morning to mid afternoon showers. But not too heavy.
In the ring at Crathes 2013.
Generating early
Now it's dark
Lots more better pictures will appear hopefully Monday
Very enjoyable day. Raise steam by 0930 and stayed in steam until 2230. Got back to the camp with 45psi on the clock and a dull fire. Canvas cover on and chimney sock off. Bed time. Been a long steam but exceptional enjoyable. Few orders should be heading Steam Traction World way.
Crystal worked very well for her living. She only stayed still for 20 minutes while I had lunch. Bake potatoes in the smokebox. 1 hour second gear 130 psi on the clock trundle round with kid on the back and a few grows ups. Afternoon snack ready beautiful with just a bit of butter. May try bacon eggs a mushrooms for breakfast for tomorrow. Then it's a bit of Steak either curried or a little spiced up with herbs and spices. Done in smoke box again. With the content driving about all day I used about 40g gallon of water and 30 to 40Kg of coal.
I must measure the distance and work out what mileage done.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Excellent post Lynn, look forward to seeing more pics on Monday.
You should be in for another good day today!! Could be good news for STW if your engine impresses a few more people to "take the plunge" into building one of these "masterpieces"!!
Have a good one,
Regards,
Tony

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Well Crystal did very well at Crathes.
Took a bit getting use to the road train. But "Mara" and "Uisge" performed excellently.
Saturday evening was a bit disappointing. Not much of a showmanship lineup with only 2 miniatures generating.
But!
Crystal looked very impressive. Sitting between 100 and 150 psi generating with very little regulator used.

Switch gear and meters fitted
Well that's the last kit fitted. What a fantastic experience this build has been.
Got some painting to do but that's about it.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Needed to reverse the polarity from the dynamo as the direction of spin gives negative voltage.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hi all
Did a test fitting of the engine and trailers today to check weights and balance. It turned out well.
The trailer is a Ifor Williams LM105 and everything fits on with little space to spare.
The whole load does travel very well and is stable to tow.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
looking good there Lynn, can i ask what your trailer spec is and do you have any weight figures? are you well within your towing capacity?

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Ifor Williams LM105
2.7t max = good strength off road.
2t gross trailer weight towing allowance. Giving over 450kg space. Well within the car limit and trailer.
Spec allows total weight of engine to rest on one wheel.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Crystal out playing at the Scottish Model Engineering Trust open day. She raised over £100 in donations.
Lunchtime of baked potatoes with my nephew.
Happy customers
Using the steam up at the end of the day.
Loading up to head home the end of an excellent run
The apprentice watching closely.
It does fit honest
More pictures to come when the disc arrives. It was a very busy day so did not get a chance to take pictures myself.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hi Kevin
I got it made at Tom Morrow Tarps, Inverness. Custom made to fit. Even has a removable sock over the chimney. So the cover can be on even when she is still hot.
Quite expensive at £240 but worth it.
I will be getting another tarp made to cover everything on the transport trailer. Hoping to get ratchet straps added like on a curtain side for securing. Makes loading much quicker. Especially as I normally work single handed.
