Hi All.

Just received the kit for the water bowser so thought I would start another thread here for it. Pictures will start to come tomorrow.

Who else has got one? Very Happy

Hi All

New water bowser starting to take shape.

Just using a strap to help get the seam tight. Coated the seam plate with Heldite then cinched up the bolts.

Just an idea. I welded the nuts for the hangers into the barrel as this allows the brackets to be fitted after the tank is closed up and painted. As the area just behind the bracket where it curves away could be a problem to paint.

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser Empty Need more building

Post  lynnr Fri 29 Jul 2011, 7:08 pm

Just a mockup of the cart

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser EOS5DMarkII06494

Still need to do the baffles as one is missing. Got the tap end plate all tightened up. So going to paint the bottom 1/3 with Isoflex, upto the baffle plate. Paint the 1st baffle plate on the non flanged side and insert. Once in place and buttoned up. Run some isoflex behind it to coat the corner and contact area. Then paint the front of the baffle and the next 1/3 of the tank ready for the 2nd baffle plate. And as they say repeat if required. I will then paint out to 1/2" from the blank end plate. Fit the end plate having painted this to the edge of the flange. So it only leaves the 1/2 inch flange to paint up via the hole.

Sounds like a plan

Hi Tony
Is your engine the "Green Goddess" as the colour is very much like the military fire engines.

Nice on the bowser. Also spy a wagon behind as well. Looks like we have a road train Very Happy

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser Empty Bowser stuff

Post  Tony King Fri 29 Jul 2011, 9:10 pm

Well spotted Lynn,
Wish I could get another wagon but I'm having to rein myself in, not least, due to lack off space!!
If you look under the wagon on the floor, you'll see the beginnings of an "organ grinders" fair ground organ starting to take shape.... It's the bellows!! (there's the first set of melody pipes sitting inside the trailer!!)
It's my intension to convert the wagon into a minature organ trailer which will be powered by.................. yep you guessed it, the Showmans engine, thus music while you drink!!
How good does it get?

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser Empty Progress and interuptions

Post  lynnr Sat 30 Jul 2011, 5:47 pm

Progress today was not as planned.

Started painting and fitting the baffles.

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser EOS5DMarkII06495

Then had to go fetch a new Rotary dryer as the old one fell over. The base snapped.

Done some more coating

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser EOS5DMarkII06497

End plate ready for installation once the isoflex dries
Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser EOS5DMarkII06498

Went to get some postcrete.

Went back to get more!!!

While the isoflex is drying thought I would start on the wheels.

Fillets done

Wheels dry fitted to make sure all is OK. Need to grind down 1 screw in the hub.

She is there again.

Should get the barrell finished tomorrow. Going to do some polishing tonight. Filler lid and hinge, handle, the 6 tank supports, the rear tow hitch and the eye of the front drawbar ready for Bright Nickle platting tomorrow.

Chassis has already been dry fitted but can not do much more on that until the springs arrive.

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser Empty Sunday's work

Post  lynnr Sun 31 Jul 2011, 5:29 pm

Hi All

Good progress today. Got the blank end on the tank and the inside isoflexed. Tank support brackets are now plated after a good polishing.

Needed to nip down town to get more isolflex, 50 minutes round trip. Never mind. Got the rubber on to the rims so sitting on the axil supported on a block so the rubber is not taking weight. Put the rubbers on as a dry run, then went for the full hog. Took 5 minutes a wheel to do the final. Not overly messy either.

Pictures later on this evening.

So that is that for the weekend. Depending how tomorrow goes I may get the colour sanding done on the tank in the evening. Otherwise it will be left until next weekend.

Well after rubbing most of the paint back off last night I thought it better to add some more.

Finish is much better tonight but a fair bit of spray in the air so no camera in the area.
Will get a couple pics tomorrow.

Hi Lynn,

Looks good Very Happy

Just a quick question, with the showman being much taller than the standard 4" engine, will the bowser fit in to the tow bar OK, or does it have have to be at an angle.

If you could take a picture of the bowser connect to your engine I would appreciate it, as I would like one, but if the seat is pitched, I would find it annoying after a while.

All the best,

Hi Brian

Only one hitch in the plan. I do not have the springs so unable to see the height. Also I am not worried about the seat as the water cart will be behind at least 1 wagon Very Happy I may even remove the seat supports when I get it all together.

Lynn Robinson 4" water bowser Empty Lining out

Post  lynnr Thu 11 Aug 2011, 8:34 am

Hi All

Now that the paint has had a week to set off nice and hard. It is time..... for lining out, coach lining or pin-stripping (cross out as required). So hopefully some pictures this evening. Of course this is when I get home from work. Wheels are going to be the same as the SRL. Not sure on the tank but once the paint is in the Beugler we will see if a particle of inspiration hits the right spot. Not having found any pictures of a full size water cart can not see what was normally done to them.

I suspect very little, as they were normally at the back of the road train. I lined the tank on mine to tie it in with the engine, but left the wheels plain.
