Hi Lynn,
Looking very good, what paint did you use for the name rings? I have yet to do mine and not sure what to go for.
Cheers Kev.

Hi Kev
The red paint I used for the name rings is Plasti-Kote Projekt Paint 2in1 Metal Protekt on top of light gray/white etch primer. Hope it will give good service.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Got some of that. I presume you then sanded back the letters etc for the finished effect and then polished it? The outer plate I have has letters level or so with the outer rim but in the smaller one the letters are much lower so making it difficult to run a sander or something over them. Was yours the same? From the pictures it looks like the letters are a bit more proud or maybe thats just how it looks once there is a colour difference. A good close up would show it.
moldings
On the bigger ring the letters are flush with the rims so made it easy to polish off the paint using a fine file. Then I polished the ring up with sheet of wet and dry and a cork block.
The small ring is not so well moulded, somewhat pitted. Yes the letters are much lower but using a sanding disk in the dremel type tool. Working the disk almost on edge I got a reasonably polished finish to the letters. It took about 2 hours to do.
I will try some macro photography on the parts in the next few days. Currently on leave to build the work shed. Not for the engine but I get a bigger bedroom as the 2nd room is currently used as fathers workshop.

Plasti-kote Woodstove satin black. says good to 400degC. This is on top of Carplan Firecote VHT matt black baked in the oven at 200 for 60 mins.
I originally thought the VHT would go sort of satin as this was the finish at first. Then once it dried it went very matt black so I resprayed with the plasti-kote.

Kit 4 Rear wheel
Got the rear wheel last friday. Cleaned and dry fitted yesterday.
Enjoy
Ah. forgot. No I am not building the engine in a greenhouse but building parts in the conservatory as there is more light.
Will be moving to the garage when bits get somewhat bigger and I have secured the front door and put more lighting in.

Try again. Wibble wibble going mad!
Good progress had over the last few evening and today. Got painting today. Used a touch more harderner in the paint. Now able to handle the parts after 4 hours at 20DecC. Should be able to do pinstriping tomorrow.
Perch and Pivot repainted due to a problem. (Inclusion just under the surface of the pivot shaft locked everything up. Had to go at it with an assortment of tools and hammers).

Rear left wheel painted

10 10 10 progress
Interesting note.
101010 in binary is the answer to "life, the universe and everything" being 42.
Progress.
Lots of fiddly painting done today
Front wheels
Perch and Pivot first stage pinstripping
Can not get on with the back wheel pinstripping as I need more masking tape. Freehand pinstripping not there yet
Now having thought about it. Think I will leave the rear wheel pinstripping until I have the other wheel as the same stage.
Hope this progress report does not bore anyone too much.

The pivot
Spent the day thinking.
Going to thin the lines on the pivot( which I was going to do anyway) and return the pin to solid red.

Hi
Just to say. Yes I will be cleaning the paint of the rubber once it hardens.

21/11/2010 Progress. Pinstripping!
Hi All
Here is the latest update. Been busy over the last couple days cracking on with the pinstripping. I am using a mix of masking tape and beugler pen. To what I think good effect. May consider redoing the yellow line on the rear wheels rim to make it a bit more consistent may just paint some wheel colour to straighten the yellow out and clean up the ends of some of the lines.
So here is the pictues

Kit 7 and 17
Well good progress done over the last few days, does help when you are on holiday.
Got the tender and belly tank built up. Painted the tanks in Isoflex today so stinking the house out
Hope to finish/refine the edge grinding tomorrow then I should be able to fit the side panels on the belly tank and finish the isoflex. I have not put one panel on the tender to allow easy access for painting.
Will try and get a few pictures tomorrow.

Now for something completely different.
The marathon nut and bold sessions are now over!
Yipeeeeeeeeee.
Tender and belly tank now in first top coat. Looking quite good. Couple of sags due to the low temperature but will buff out before second and final coat.
Cover plates and toolbox lid.

Gone all flat
Successful evening had last night. Got the tender and belly tank flatted ready for the next coat of paint. Think I may only require 1 coat to finish.

Seeing stars
Though I would share how the stars are coming on. Spent lunchtime polishing the stars on 500grit wet and dry. Then "dremeled" with green polishing compound on a cloth mop.
