Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Great pictures Lynn,
4" Foster looks nice I wonder who owns that
I actually think the weekend was great the weather wasnt that bad and at least we could still move about without the fear of sinking into the ground.
i'll no doubt see you at strathspey and banchory. other local shows are red row and east fortune if anyone is around for them..
i'll also be at masham and haunton and i hope to get the to selkirk rally too.. 4 rallies so far and about another 6 to go.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Lynn,
A fine gathering of truly icon engines and some truly appalling misrepresentations of history - Chrystal will probably have more showman’s provenience…..
Interesting to see Keith Collins up there with Mtoto, formally known as Pandora in these parts – he gets everywhere!
It looks like a good rally; I must add it to my list.
Tim

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Cant believe there were only two shots of "The President", I would have been all over it!! But then thats because I am doing one and am very unlikely to bump into it at any do's "dahn saff" and understandably you were looking at showmans but a very good set of pics none the less.
Looks like you had a good time, I enjoy interacting with the public too, I particularly enjoy the look of most spouses faces when the hubby asks "How Much?" and I tell them. However it is nearly always followed up with a discussion about costs of drinking, smoking, golf and other such costly pastimes which no-one ever seems to take into account or question, none of which I do. I have also recently started extolling the virtues of not keeping savings in a bank as although I did not do this as a financial invetsment it ceratinly will have accrued more return than any savings plus I get to play with the engine and it involves the family ( sometimes )

I went to photo The President in more detail but the RAIN stopped that. As Jo commented that Steve was after more pictures. Then once the rain stopped again I had forgotten (Brain of a chicken at the moment).

Mr High Pressure if you would like any pictures of 'The President' detail shots and the like PM me I've got lots from when we did the Midsummer version. They're just sitting gathering digital dust at the moment and if they're of use I'm happy to share

Adam,
There are several of us on here that are producing near copies of the President. The more photos the better.
I have PM'd you my email address if you wish to send them to me or post them on here.
cheers
Nick

I'll email them, thats easiest for me. I can't work out how to post large volumes of photos on here and I'm not particularly worried about learning.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Just a couple from Strathspey Steam Fair.
Crystal in her usual splender.
And a strange truck type engine.
Couple more pictures later. Once steam is raised on the big computer.

Glad to see plenty of crud on the footplate and the pump not polished to within an inch on its life

Never though of that! Pump will no doubt be off again. Once it is working it will be cleaned up and painted. NOT polishing that every day!

Got some leaks but not too many. I may have 1st prize for the funniest.
Water coming out of the brake axial tube via the lubrication hole.

Couple pictures from last night
Sorry for poor quality. Mobile phone.
First light up
We have pressure!
Bad time. On bricks to make sure of enough water over the crown due to leaks while she cools down.
Successful first steaming. One hour twenty minutes to needle lifting off the end stop.
Ran in to problems at 20 psi or there abouts. Smoke box filling up with water and the cooling effect caused tar and crud to condense in the tubes. Turkey baester to remove the water and a tube brushing had her heading for 50psi. She then sat at 50 for quite a while. The breeze had shifted direction due to evening effect.
Got a number of leaks
Steam injector globe valve. Started tightening the valve stem using a spanner and the valve is getting better.
Blower cylindar to globe valve adaptor. Really does need a nut to lock it up. So hissed past the threads.
HP valve cover. New gasket and tighten up a bit more.
Whistle. Not too bad. Bit of work on the ball and seat will do. Sound fine as well.
Governor. Forgot to pack the gland. Oops.
Steam head blanking plug. Letting past. Just needs more tape.
Pressure gauge globe valve to steam head. Bit more tape again.
Bottom joint of the water gauge to boiler extension tube. Bit more tape needed.
Mechanical water pump. That's another story. Letting steam past into the tender. When the bypass is shut. The flange hisses and ther appears to be a few pin holes in the casting of the flange.
All in all from experience at commercial pressure systems. Snag list is not too long and just experience in the most part on amount of packing to add to threads.
Almost forgot. Brake axial tube. Need to seal as water coming out the lubrication hole. Not good but funny when I realised.

2nd Steaming
Hi All
Just a few pictures of the snag list from the second steaming.
It started raining heavily.
Where has Crystal gone.
Ah there she is.
She is hiding out of the rain in the garage.
The rain
Now the snag list.
Core plug.
Blower valve and adaptor.
Whistle flange
Tender water leak in the corner. When belly tank full water comes up out of here.
Water gauge extension tube.
Mechanical waterpump check valve flange to boiler.
Thought the regulator had disengaged from the rod but it is OK.
LP Drain plug. The other one leaked during 1st steaming. It stopped but this one now leaks.
Core plug on the LP side of the block. (Also used to remove oil from the cross passage.
Water balance pipe shut off.
I also took the crank out to check one of the steam supply pipes on the top of the boiler.
You can remove the crank with the 3rd gear boss attached with little problem. Took about 20 minutes to disconnect and remove.
2 hours to put it all back together.
And finally. The waterpump!
May get the next test steaming on Friday as Thursday heading to the quarry to get gravel for the garden and to replace one of the concrete runs on the driveway.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
I could watch this all day. Great to see them all come to life one by one. Two months ago we had lots to do on our build now though we are almost caught up. Number plate to finish and the lining to the belly tank and were on stop awaiting the next kits to come out of STW towers.
