Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Looks like you're on a roll Lynn, that mod to the third gear didn't take you long to do!!
Good pics!
Be awhile before I get pics up of my progress as I seem to be busy doing all sorts of "other stuff" at the moment!!
Regards,
Tony

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
That flywheel is going to look great once lined. Looking really good now Lynn so keep up the hard work, not many kits to go now by the look of it.

Hi Tony
Yes the video will show how to do the rings. I only filmed the Red but the Yellow was just as quick. About 1 minute per ring. If that

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
First video. Not so good as camera bit low for the outer ring.
I will link the other half once it is finished uploading.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Very good Lynn, are you rotating the flywheel by hand, very smooth if so!! What a difference a few lines make!!
On another subject, ie third gear engagement, I'm able to slide gear to "disengage", but it's locking up when trying to "engage". Is it just a case of filing corners off the gear where it runs on it's hub?
Regards,
Tony

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hi Tony
Yes you need to radii off the inside of 3rd gear sprocket and the keyways.
Check and make sure the pivot post is 90deg from the Crank shaft in the fore/aft axis.
Then also check the fork pivot pin is co-axial with the fork as mine was about 2deg out and would lock up the gear in one direction of travel. I also polished off the ribbing from the 3rd gear hub and that helped matters greatly.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hi All
Been in the garage between visits to the facilities.
Needed to do a paint repair. Ground down one of the rivets on the gear case to allow the flywheel to sit a bit closer to the engine.
All better now.
It is a bit ruff but will not be seen as is only 3mm from the flywheel.
Painted gear guard now back in place. small touch up as it got dinged.
Fitting all the bits back in this tight area. I took the steering bracket off as it gave me more space to get spannering.
Flywheel in place.
and clearance for getting the belt in.
I see 5 or 6 mm

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Unfortunately there were 20mm clods of mud going round on the wheels at Dorset when the ground dried out a bit and the mud went from slime to glue. ( note this is a recognised measure of ground conditions ranging from Quagmire to Dust )

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Good reason to have the flywheel hub unpainted: it may end up unpainted anyway.

We have a better class of mud up north. Not so gritty. It is called peat.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Thankyou Isabel and STW. Got my new water pump yesterday.
Spent the morning today Fitting the pump. I needed to file the bolt holes for the piston packing flange as the studs are out of allignment
Uisge is over the moon at her birthday. 7 years old today.
Got the water pump fitted and it moves well. Hope to have a try at steaming tomorrow so will see if this one is a goodun.
Spent a couple hours this afternoon making a bend for the lifter hose. Will look much better this way (thanks Tony for the inspiration).

Crystal ran well today. Couple of leaks that were not on the last snag list. Se also moved under her own steam. All 30ft of it!
Getting close to steam test!

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic
Hope the weather is good over the next 4 days. If it is Crystal will be in steam for as long as possible each day. Learning how she behaves in show display mode and how the fire reacts to no blower and damper closed and how quick she responds to wake up call.
