Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
Little but if a problem here.
That's both sides now broken where the countersink bolt is.
This time it happened at Brian's birthday road run
Fixed. Well enough until winter hibernation and deep clean.
Oh the new valve on the injector feed worked a charm.
Water on. Steam on. Quick twist closed on water and open full. Slurp every time.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
Steam Traction World we have a problem. Over.
4 hours to remove the dynamo. Very difficult when you can't hold the shaft stationary to unwind the pulleys.
I had to drill locking pin holes in various parts so I could unbolt and remove enough to get the dynamo out.
Just need to pack up and send down to Steam Traction World as the shaft has broken inside the casing of the dynamo itself.

Had my own bucket challange yesterday.
Tried multi layering of vinyl on Crystals bucket.
Think it turned out all right.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
one to watch out for, as my shaft also broke after a long generation.
It was correctly aligned in the generation case, but sheered the shaft completely in two. STW did turn it around in a day, so thanks Ian and Isabel.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
i wonder whether or not we are putting too much pressure on the belt when generating (and hence the spindle) to reduce belt slip. I've just bought a tin of 'Rocol belt dressing spray' to see if this helps. A wax based belt dressing certainly improved matters at GDSF.

Hi all
Need some ideas. What sort of load would the showman pull other than living van and square packed rides?
I am thinking some lightweight crates to store thing on rally field when not pulling passengers.

Lynn
The centre truck of a ride, ex-army 4 wheel search light trailers were popular for conversion to centre trucks. An organ truck, Kev has one available that plays beautifully. During wartime they were engaged in general heavy haulage, demolition and even threshing so pick your period and have fun.
Brian
PS: Looking forward to putting 4 traction wagons and a showman's engine behind Blackbeard later is month!!!

So that's for me pushing you as well as towing the 4 wagons and water bowser(s) behind Crystal.
The road train is going to be about 35ft long.

There are also the pole trucks that were used to carry 'big-top' timbers, they would be very long even scaled down.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
It's getting that time of year again. Steam inspection due shortly so Crystal getting some tlc.
Found that the two angled roof supports have snapped again but in a different location. So will need to take the whole assembly off to fix.
Got my new whistle fitted. A nice 4 chime one. Sounds good. Yes I forgot to record it on air before fitting.
And a ratchet style lubricator. Very good and reliable oil delivery. Positive action even at max cut off.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
Hi all
Well got steaming today. 50% success rate.
The new lubricator works wonders. Might be slightly too enthusiastic. But that's fine.
Whistle. Not very much out of it. Needs a new valve as previously suggested. I have tried finding the yorkshire company but can not get a fix on it.
Help please. Which valve to get and contact details.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
Hi Lynn,
If you are using the original STW valve, mine did not let any steam through when open as the diameter of the push rod filled the hole in the PTFE ball seat hence sealing itself. I turned the end of the push rod down slightly and it now let's loads of steam through to the whistle, your nice new 4 chime probably needs a lot more steam flow so check if your valve has a similar set up.
Ian

Crystal has passed her cold inspection. But she is not too happy with her current posture.
Steam test on the 7th.

Re: Lynn Robinson. Showman Scenic Part 2
Hi Ian and all
Got Crystal back together after her cold inspection.
Since it is a bit showery this morning though I would have a go at the whistle valve.
Upon inspection yes Ian. The valve is very restrictive. So after porting the casing, filing triangle the end of the push rod and channel it out. New whistle screw fit altered to allow more steam out of the offset port on the valve.
Tried on air. Yup. Much louder. Next steam trial. Weather is getting better.

Hi All
Got a steaming today. Not many pictures but there will be a video.
Yes Brian! I got out of the housing estate. All the way to the garage and back. 10 miles round trip across Culloden Moor.
Some nice hills steep but not as long as Brian's birthday road run.

Hi All
Video now uploaded. Not much of the engine as the camera is mounted on the Dynamo casing but I like it anyway.
Youtube is taking a long time to process. Will appear at somepoint!!

Nice whistle Lynn, I may be tempted to get one of those. Good video too, engine sounding nice on the uphill sections!
