Now a lot more painting to do, all the wheels to complete.
No kit this month, can't wait to get tender and start building again.
Thats all for now

Post  chas12154 Tue 27 Oct 2015, 9:17 am

Morning all, got Kit 7 yesterday, looks very interesting!!! Lots of fiddle bits for my chunky fingers, to have fun with Very Happy
Like many of you, the 8BA socket nuts n bolts, wasn't in kit, phoned STW, they are dropping them in the post for me.

I've finished painting all the wheels, with top coat. They look good, well to me they do:)
Haven't decided whether to line them or not. Will pack them away, till a later date, when I've had a bit of practice lining.
Will take some pics of wheels before I pack them away and post them on here shortly, probably at the weekend, when paint has harden.

Happy building to you all

Hi Kev I used a small sandstone grinding attachment on my mini drill. I will put pic of it on here if I can locate it: lol!: lol!
Did take a bit of time, but think it was worth it to get the end result.
I have brush painted the wheels and still undecided if I will line them.

It did take a little time but think it was worth it.
You will enjoy your build, when you finely start and will be on here asking for help, with things, like we all do. This forum has been a real help to me and other builders too.
Got a problem, come on here and ask, you will find someone that has had the same problem or someone that knows a way of sorting it.
STW are also a good place to go for help.

Hope when you start your build, you will be posting pics and allowing us to see your model grow to the finished engine.

Hi all, the tender is a very fiddly kit Very Happy All those tiny rivet bolts to put in!!
Got most in now, went to fit the tow straps, too short! Rang STW, they sent me new set, came yesterday, bugger me, they are the same length as the ones I had.
I am right in thinking, the tow brackets do fit against tender first and then the tow straps fit over them, as in drawing?
If anyone can help, I would like to hear from you.

Hi Charlie,
Yes the tow bar fits onto the tender, with the tow straps on top. I had the same problem, the replacements were slightly longer, but not enough. I ended up thinning the tow bar slightly on each end. That worked. I suppose it depends how short yours are. I found that if i fitted the original straps to the tender, they were a perfect fit to go under the tow bar, but not correct.😤

Hi Mike, mine are the same as yours, if the tow straps were against the tender, they fitted perfectly.
I have rung STW , again today, they are going to ring me back later today, as Steve is on holiday, Ian will ring me.
To thin the tow bracket, they would need tobe 1 or 2mm thick to fit, I have no way of making them thinner anyway Very Happy
I want it tobe right, so will see what Ian says later.

Thanks for your reply and help.

Hi all, just an update on my build.
Got a new set of tow straps from STW, but had the same problem with them. Couldn't get tow brackets behind the strap.
Rang STW again and spoke to Ian. He suggested that I returned the strap, along with my tender, so they could sort problem at the factory.
Sent tender etc back on a Friday, had tender back, the following Tuesday. Straps fitted and enough room to get tow brackets behind straps.
Now fitted, all bolts in place, really looking good.
Iv'e now fitted beading around the tender and filed off slotted rivet screws and shaped the "u" shaped beading to blend in with the brass beading.
Coal bunker extension to back of tender on too.
Now waiting for next kit with rest of fittings for tender before I will isoflex the tender.
Will post some photos tomorrow of tender.

I believe the bends, on the end of the straps, were to curved. When I got, tender and straps back, it looked as though they had put a shaper bend on straps, which allowd the tow brackets to fit behind straps

Afternoon everyone, got a question, that I hope one of you can answer.
On the right hand side of the tender, near the front of water tank, there is a threaded hole.
I can't workout what it is for, can anyone in-lighting me, to what it is for?
Just Isoflexed the tank and top of tank, doesn't the primer stink!!!

Hope to hear from someone with a answer.

Many thanks

Hi Chas,
I am pretty sure that the one your are referring to is for a gear guard, to be fitted on a later kit. I have screwed a bolt in mine for now to protect the threads from paint etc.

Hi Mike, thanks for that, never give that a thought it might be for the gear guard .
Had thought about finding a bolt to put in it to keep paint out.

Evening all, hope all is well with my fellow builders.
Got a problem, I'm hoping one of you can help me with.
Iv'e just received delivery of Kit 9. I don't know if I'm just being thick, but can't workout which holes the dummy rivets, 3/32" go!
Can see they go around the outside of Hornplates, but on the Right hand Hornplate, there are two holes at 45 Degrees, near the bottom of steering bracket. Is there any other holes they go in?
Can anyone help?

Hi Charlie,
The 45 degree holes are for the pipe clamp fittings that come with the boiler kit. If you have had the tender fittings, you would have had a similar brass clamp on the side of the tender.
  Regards
