Good thinking Mark, that's a good idea. I want to see if I can get some chemical metal filler too, if its still made.

Charlie,
JB Weld, is quite popular on here, I did the fillets on my front wheels with it, but have yet to "bang" in the rivbolts!

My Burrell new build
Hi all, just received kit 3, can someone advise me the best way to to assemble and paint the smokebox and door. Do I put the brass name rings on before i bake in oven? And do I attach the chimney base to smokebox, chimney together before baking in oven to. The chimney has come with brass top on, will this be ok to bake in oven?
This being my first time building a model, unsure about it. hope one of you can help.
Thanks Charlie

Re: My Burrell new build
Hi,
I have just finished my smokebox. I painted the brass rings, baked them and then rubbed them down to highlight the letters. I painted the door and baked in the oven unnattached to the smokebox, i had the chimney attached to the smokebox. The brass top to the chimney discoloured slightly, but cleaned up well. I guess the top of the chimney will discolour anyway when the engine is steamed. I hope that this helps.

Re: My Burrell new build
Hi Charlie,
I painted my perch bracket and axle wallis and stevens green. I an a bit further forward thsn you as stw were having problems obtaining materials on a couple of occassions so sent me alternative kits to keep me going. I had the rear wheels first. Then back to kit 1 the fronts then kit2 , then jumped to the hornplates, and now the smokebox.

Hi Mike, sounds like your having fun! Bits arriving is all that matters, as least its a surprise which kit your get next
Ive painted mine Burrell Green, been looking at some pictures with the perch bracket black, think it looks better not in black.

Re: My Burrell new build
I guess its a matter of taste. I have used burrell plum for wheels. I was intending burreel green for the body initially, but decided on a lighter green.

Thats right, you make your engine look as you choose. My wheels are chocolate, not decided what colour lining I will have yet.
As long as your happy with the finished engine and knowing you've built it the best you can, I know I cant wait to steam mine when finished.

Re: My Burrell new build
Looking good mate. I had a wheel built in my old workshop sat in a vee block to stop it rolling away. People passing through would stop and look in wonder at the detail. They look even better painted up!

Thanks Jim. Wheel is almost finished now, will take some more pics, once I have glued tyre on.
Then have to wait a couple of weeks for adhesive to set.
Got front wheels painted in undercoat, when Ive done the rear wheel dine in undercoat too, will paint all four with top coat then varnish to finish them off. Pack them away till needed.
Should get other rear wheel soon and build that while tyre is drying.

Re: My Burrell new build
Yeah they won't be needed for a while as you build up the tender and cylinder block etc etc but I wouldn't worry about doing all the wheels at the same time. Carefully painting around all of the spokes in 2" scale takes a while and having to apply a few coats of each paint it can get a bit dull:sleep: Breaking it up will keep the interest.

Hi Jim, yes I agree painting can get boring
Wheel, kit 4, completed now tyre on, nothing to do but wait!
Will be painting in between building other parts, as the coats needs a few days to dry and with the British weather, not everyday is a painting day
Im enjoying my build and waiting for my next kit, kit 5, to arrive. Then with the wheels completed, will be getting my teeth into the tender, which will be good to see my engine begin to take shape

Re: My Burrell new build
Slow and steady wins the race with the tender. The 9 million BA screws need to be tightened evenly and a little at a time in order to draw the mating faces together without stripping the threads along with your sense of humour!

Sound like I'm going to need one!
All good fun, as they say!
Stripping threads is so easy with everything being so small, hope they send some spare ones
I doubt if the tender will be the only thing that gives me headaches!
Still trying to decide what lining to do and what colour.
