Hi Lynn, yes it did. Have manged to straighten it and appears to work ok. Have ordered a new plate and knob as that got bent.
Wonder if you can help me, I need to get a blower, any ideas where I can get a small 12 volt one from?

On the Steaming instructions,  it mentions a blower from Steam Fittings, contact Arthur Colemon on 01341 280637. At £17.60 item code 001702. Mike

Afternoon all, engine back together after its little accident!
Steamed it this afternoon, had a new blower which worked very well. Raised steam and had plenty of water left in boiler.
Found out that the crankshaft got bent when it fell off table, now have spoken to Steve at STW, and agreed that was the problem. Have ordered a new one that will be sent out tomorrow.
More to do no, will start taking it apart tomorrow.

Afternoon all
Engine taken apart today and can clearly see crankshaft is bent! Now awaiting replacement to arrive.
One good thing can out of today, taking it apart I could see that oil has been getting though well, you can't really tell when together. Wicks are working well.

Good news that everything is going back together.

Nice being able to order spares over the phone and not have to spend weeks machining.

Hi Lynn,
If it wasn't for STW I wouldn't of been able to build the engine. I have very little engineering experience. And no room for all the equipment needed

This is what I always promote when I'm at rallies, its amazing how many folks dont realise that you can run an engine with spares just a phone call away. Not that I've needed much in all honesty, mainly I'm sure down to the decent quality of the kits.

Morning all,
Engine back together, hoping to do another steaming today or tomorrow. Having rebuilt it after the accident, engine seem freer than before. Having small problem getting water pump to work but will continue trying before I steam it.
Will report on progress and add more pics and possibly a video too.

Afternoon all
Another steam test today. More problems again!
Need some advise, the whistle yet again was leaking really badly. It seem to have been leaking from the bowl, this time. I had put PTFE tape around the thread when I screwed it on. I had problems before with the pin not staying out, so disconnected the chain and it stayed out this time but still was leaking by, I am running out of ideas on what to try.
Also this time in steam the engine ran in reverse when reversing lever was in the forward position.
Had a leak from the water glass connection from boiler, but can just about get to the nut to undo it and put some liquid thread sealant on it.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think you may have fitted your eccentric rods the wrong way around on the valve link. I had the same problem with the whistle. I put a very small washer between the spring and and cap to enable the spring to push harder against the pin. I'm no expert, but it worked for me.

Hi Mike,
The valve linkage was in the forward running position, so think I had it right. Will check against the instruction.
As for the whistle, the pin was right out as far as it will go. So your saying, the ball might not be tight against the seal in the whistle?

Hi Charlie,
The ball needs to be tight to the hole to form a seal, when you pull the lever tbe pin unseats it to allow pressure to pass. As far as the eccentric rods are concerned, in tbe forward position on the lever, the bottom of the linkage should be almost resting on the cladding. Looking from the rear of the engine, of the two valve eccentrics, the left hand one goes to the top of the linkage, the right hand one to the bottom.

Hi Mike,
That is what the linkage is doing in the forward position, nearly touching the cladding. I have had loads of trouble with the whistle every time I have steamed the engine. I have ordered some new springs off of Amazon. I'm waiting for them to arrive.
Will tomorrow have a look at it and try what you have suggested trying, if I can find a small enough washer and check the eccentrics are right. I have wondered if the valve settings has moved as I had the crank out and may not in the right place now. Will take cylinder cover off tomorrow and check that too.

Send the complete whistle back to STW for the attention of "Ian" I will sort it for you. its probably the ball not seated, or the ball seat now to big.
Its going to be away for about a week, make sure your names with it.

Hi Mike
Checked eccentrics today, I had connected them up the wrong way. I had the left hand one, looking from the back of engine, connected to the bottom. Had crankshaft out today and swapped them round. Have sent whistle back to STW for Ian to sort out for me.
Had leak from top water glass fitting too, Couldn't get spanner on it to do it up anymore so have tried to put some sealant around it and hope for the best!!!
Need to sort out drain cocks too haven't been able to get any water out of them each time I have steamed the engine. I have no idea which way is out for the drain cocks. Will take them off tomorrow and see if I can see what is the problem

I'm glad you sorted the eccentric issue. To be honest the cylinder drain cocks I had issues with. It turned out they were blocked with solder. STW changed them. Did you check them prior to fitting? Mike

Hi Mike
No I didn't check them before fitting, something I didn't think to do. Will have them off today and check them out. Such a pain, as have to remove the step again, with the brass bolts, I'm always worried about stripping the threads.
Will let you know what I find.

Afternoon all, anther steam test today, had a bit more of luck this time.
Still had problem with whistle leaking by but after pressure rose to 50lbs it started just leaking steam and eventually stopped leaking. Got a leak in the top water glass fitting, the pipe that comes from top of boiler to the fitting. I have tired to tighten it but hard to get a spanner on it because of injector pipe in the way, Anyone got any ideas? Get drain cocks working this time very well. Had to get tow new ones from STW because my old ones I think were blocked. The new ones I had to drill out, the cock end, because they also was blocked, I couldn't get the thin wire to past though them, then had the idea to pass a small drill though the cock and down the pipe and it worked.
I have made a short video but don't know how to upload it from my laptop, can anyone help with that?

Got a few more photos now engine is completed.

Looking good again.
Quite often some steam leaks will seal themselves up over time depending on the reason, others of course will get worse.

The best way is to load them to youtube, if you have a googlemail account you will be able to use that to log into youtube, if not then you will need to sign up for a google account and then access it that way. Its all free to do.
