Post  chas12154 Sat 18 Apr 2015, 10:50 am

This is my new thread on my build of a 2" Burrell. Went to STW on Wednesday. Met by Dean and shown around. All very friendly and had a good couple hours looking round. Well impressed and brought my first kit home Very Happy Today(Saturday) starting my build, long way to go and no doubt be full of ups n downs, but I know any problems I might encounter, there will be someone on here or at STW, that can help.
In the first kit, there was two small blue bottles, can anyone help in telling what they are and what I use them for?
I will be posting picture of my progress.
I know at the end of my build, I will have made a Burrell, a thing of beauty that has and will bring so many hours of joy, sweat n tears and probably, some sleepless nights:( But in the end, so worth it.

The bottle marked bearing grade is to secure the phosphur bronze bushes into the hub. The other one is to lockthe threads on the wheel bolts. Mike

As you can see, Ive grinded the bolts and nuts to hopefully look a little like rivet heads once painted.
Next job to put tyres on permanently. Time to get messy affraid

It's not that bad if you have plenty of rag handy to mop up the inevitable squidgy bits that will seep from the edges of the tyre. Oh and I can't stress enough Gloves and wear old tshirt.

Have done one tyre today. The gloves were a good thing but still got messy! Think I used to much Adhesive, next time think I will use less and only put it on tyre. Having another go tomorrow. I brought some blue paper towels which socked in white spirit seemed to clean the spillage well and cleaned my hands too:lol!:

Both surfaces need nice even coats to guarantee a good adhesion

Second tyre stuck to wheel this morning. Not quite as messy as first one! Now nothing to do for couple weeks while adhesive sets.

Have you got the wheels in upright position with the rubber off the ground while setting?

Otherwise you may get a flat

Yes I have Lynn, got them on a screw driver clamped in a vice. I had read on a thread that they need tobe upright and suspended.

Hi all, still waiting for tyres to stick to wheels, so been shopping! Got my paint ordered today from Craftmaster. Not cheap but nothing is if you want the best.
Ive gone for Burrell Chocolate for the wheels and Burrell Green for the engine. Got the varnish too.
Soon be painting my wheels and waiting for my next kit to arrive.

Promise me you will invest in a decent brush! (if you are brush painting) my build shows my developing understanding of paint as I'm going. I used a cheap brush and my wheels aren't show ponies. I purchased a couple of decent 1/2" brushes from a model shop for my tender and hornplates and by the time I'd done the cladding I realised what a difference an extra 50p made to the finish.

Hi Jim, I have done some research on brushes and spent the cash on some decent ones! Only time will tell once I start using them how good they are.
I am brush painting my engine, trying to keep it as the full size ones would of been painted. Will add more pics as the painting progresses.

Hi All, kit 2 arrived today, a day early, but luckily I was in! Got small chip on perach bracket but can get over that with some chemical metal, I think. Now got undercoat on wheels. Will wait to do top coat until I kit 2 ready to put top coat on too. Will be good to get started on the next kit, as rubbing down the wheels, I kept loosing the skin off my knuckles on the spokes! lol!
