Build so far
Looking good, you have made good progress. Keep the photos coming.
I'm still working on my hornplates and tender. Got top coat, green, on now. Got red and the black, to get on hornplates.
Iv'e only got top coat in the bottom part of tender, up tp the tow straps. Will line the bottom part of tender and then I can fit injector fitting, then I can fit the top of tank and top coat the rest of tender.
Takes a lot of time painting and I hope Iv'e got a good finish to paint.

Re: Build so far
Not too far away. How you getting on with your build?
I'm painting tender and hornplates at mo. I've had and built my cylinder block and just received Kit 10.
Couple of months and hopefully will get my boiler.
Like most, I'll have to put together what I have got to see what the final finished engine will be like.

Re: Build so far
Been a while since I could get any time in the shed. No massive updates as I had to swap out the eccentrics on the crankshaft as they were the wrong material apparently. Thanks obviously goes to STW for their diligence for rectifying this before I had a siezed mess on my hands.
RIght hand gear guard gone on and the right hand wheel. Not sure if my spokes will foul the guard at the min as tolerances are tight on 2" scale. I will test and adjust after building up the Left hand side.
Some of the plumbing is starting to go in too! I've been trial fitting and assembling the waster pump for something different. Pics to follow on that.

Re: Build so far
Hi Jim, engine looking good, it's sometimes hard finding time to get in the workshop, life gets in the way
At the end of the day, you will finish the engine one day!
As for dropping screws/nuts etc, I've given up counting how many times that has happened to me , not every time you find them but you can always get replacements, either from STW or, as I sometimes do, Ebay, is a good place to get them.
I'm hoping my boiler comes this mouth, be good to start putting the parts together I have done.
I'm working on my tender at the moment, doing the lining and got the towstraps, tow bracket to topcoat too.
Got kit 10, and will be putting hornplates together shortly too
When I have finished them both, will post some more pics.

I wanted to go but not going to get the chance as its too far for me to go . your engine looks to be advancing well by the way , not long until yours is in steam at the fair maybe!

Re: Build so far
I though it was about time I posted a wee update. I have been very busy doing day to day living, work, family and Dad duties so been off the project for a while but I managed a few hours today so:
Water pump got a couple of licks of paint.

Spot of plumbing with the joining of two pipes via a union. In 2" scale it's a right treat!

Re: Build so far
Fitted the exhaust pipe and steam pipe. Took a bit of fiddling to get the pipe into the chimney. Again in 2" scale this gets interesting. I had to cut down a mini file to get into the small gap between chimney base and cylinder block. In the end as its a warm day I threw the pipe in the freezer to gain those few microns of shrinkage to get it to fit nice and snug.

Looking good.
Make sure you clean the ragged edge of the blower pipe as you want a nice clean exit.

Re: Build so far
Has anyone had issues with the water pump? My pump ram is very tight in the body of the pump housing but I'm paranoid of the fit not being flush and then leaking if I attempt to sand a smidge (technical term) off the ram.?!?

you can take some off as its the gland seal and the rams surface finish that stops the leaking rather than the bore fit but it does still want to be snug and smooth.

Re: Build so far
The ram on my showmans was very tight and all I did was put some 800 grit paper round it and turned it in my hand checking every minute or so until it fitted
Don't forget to put a little oil on the paper this gives a very nice finnish

Re: Build so far
Chaps I'm in need of assistance once again. Does anyone know what thread size the studs are shown in the picture below. I seem to have mislaid some of the nuts (or the kids have eaten them). I ordered a slack handful from eBay, I thought they were M3 but they are too big. Defo not M2 as that's way too small. I checked it with thread gauges and could have sworn it was M3 (might have been a bit tipsy and it was dark your honour!)
Any suggestions?
NB: I'm referring to the studs holding on the valve and plumbing.

Re: Build so far
In other news here is some photos of the work I've done up to date. Pump ram sanded a little and now snug inside the water pump housing. Everything inow turns over nice and smooth with a flick of the flywheel. Happy days.
