Tried the photobucket idea and see if images work this time. Bear with me!



Test fitting axles and bearings before I strip down for prime and paint.

This is my front axle. I am going for chocolate wheels and green engine (eventually)

Rear wheels built and painted. I still need to take off masking tape and check the sintered bushes for fitting to the axle.

A little bit of offering up. As you can see the waterproofing of the tender is work in progress!

What colour you going for ?

Burrel chocolate wheels and Burrel green for the engine. I got the colour scheme from the craftmaster colour scheme post on this forum somewhere.
I wanted a traditional colour scheme other than the red/plum colour you see the majority of engines in.
The craftmaster paints are quite expensive but you can see from the results it comes up well even when brush painting.

The photos don't look like much but I'm holding back until the boiler kit turns up before painting in earnest begins. I have a lot of sub assemblies in the garage all waiting to come together.

So good to see 2" build photos on the forum  .... Now you're practised at putting pics up, keep them coming, I for one, am very keen to see your build progress!!

I to have chosen Brown and Green as my colour scheme,wanted my engine to look Agricultural so picked Earthy colours.
I am going to use Craftmaster Model range,Middle Brown and LNER Doncaster Green.
Will post some pics when I get round to painting something,at the mo just got a few bits Primed and Undercoated

Not much change this evening. Another coat or rubber paint inside the tender and some filing, sanding and polishing of the brass for the smoke box which hasn't turned out too bad.

Looking good. The cylinder is the bit I'm both most looking forward to and scared of messing up!

Hi, I am looking at the rear wheel  pictures. I am coming towards that stage on mine. Did you use etch primer on the brass outside hub cover plate? Nice paint job, by the way. Mike

Yes mate I used etch primer from halfords for the brass work. I'm no expert in painting I'm just following the guidelines from the forums on here. Thanks for the feedback and don't be shy show is all what you're up too!

A bit of wheel detail. Nothing fancy, but I couldn't resist throwing all the bits onto my new boiler and admire something resembling an engine. It's renewed my vigour to press on.

Thats looking rather impressive. It certainly gives the interest a big boost. I have currently only done the rear wheels, because STW were having a issue with the fronts, so we ar out of sequence at present. Thats not a problem.
Have you had any particular problems up to now?

Slight technical issue with the forum deleting my previous post grrrrrr

Had no real problems. I was short a few rivet bolts for the rear wheels and one of my oilers for the rear axle tube hadn't been machined but that's it.

I'm not getting commission for this but; I have been most impressed with the accuracy of the machining and cutting of holes etc. As an example the tender has about 9 million tiny rivet bolts that hold it all together and with only a little gentle persuasion with a plastic hammer it all went together without any significant cursing.

I threw all the sub assemblies onto the boiler last night and everything lined up like a well tailored suit. It's remarkable how all the weight adds up too! For one of the smaller models she is heavy!

If thats the worst that happens,thats pretty good. My only problems to date, werebolts too long for the hub covers. Nothing serious. Since my last post, i have just completed the dirtiest job on the planet,isoflexing the tyres on! What a job! Although i managed without using levers. Anyway,keep up the pogress reports,its good for me to see someones job in advance of mine.

My brass bolts were too big for the hub and I had to trim a few mm off the countersunk ones too. I found running a tap down the threads helped as well. My mong strength snapped a brass bolt and I had to drill it out.

I found that letting the tyres rest on the rims for a while allowed them to stretch a bit before isoflexing into place. I didn't need tyre levers either but I agree it's a dirty dirty job.

I had exactly to same trouble with the bolts and brass screws, i also had one of the brass ones snap. Like you i used drill and tap to sort it. I have made a change though. As the hub cap is steel, i thought that brass screws were not in keping, so i dilled and retapped the holes to 3mm and shortned some of the spare temporary bolts supplied and used those. It definately looks mor authentic. I did have to enlarge the hubcap holes also to accomodate the slightly larger bolts.

That's interesting, so your hubcaps are steel? Mine are brass and because they are small and fiddly they were a bugger to buff out the machining marks.

Yes when i had the first rear wheel kit, it was sent with steel hub cap. All of STW photos showed brass, so i emailed Steve at STW. He told me that they were supplying brass, but then they were informed that the real Burrells had steel caps, but brasson the Showmans. So for the sake of authenticity, they are supplying steel. He did offer to replace them on a part exchange basis, if i wanted the brass. I declined as i am looking for authenticity. I guess that as yours is for more advanced than mine, they just didnt know at the time that in reality they were steel.
