Steering chains.
Hi everyone,
it's getting very close now to my model being finished. wooo!
I'm still finding the steering chains dont really fit that well under the cleading and there tacking the paint off the cleading as you turn the wheel. they also get stuck from time to time depending on how the chain sits on the shaft.
I'm going to try and get hold of some smaller welded chain and replace mine as a few people have also commented about them looking over sized..
not sure where to get chain from but i'll have a wee look and update what I find..

Re: Steering chains.
Ok, my dad picked up some chain thats welded steal with 20KG breaking strength. the links are just under half an inch long, the chain supplied is 5/8th long links..
he picked it up at trago mills near them in Exeter for a grand sum of £2 for 3 meters.
I'm sending him my old chains so he can make them up and get them welded back together.. this will hopefully stop the chains from removing the paint from the cleading and look a bit more scale to the engine..
the chain was made by a company called chain products in Birmingham..

Re: Steering chains.
Hi Jo
We would appreciate a sample of your chain. We did hunt high and low for something suitable. You can get a good looking chain from MJ Engineering, but the trouble is that it's not a welded link and therefore very weak.
Regards
Steve

Hi Steve,
I have sent my Dad the old chains so when I get the new chain back i'll post you some allong with the outer bevel gears you sent me.. dont worry I havent forgot I need to send them to you..
So how many people have there model in steam? I was thinking it might be nice to try and all get to a show with our engines. would be nice to have a model sitting outside the STW stand in steam for all to see..

Re: Steering chains.
Any update on the chains issue
Having had a closer look at the big ones The chains supplied don't look that good. The fact I kerbed my engine and snapped the chain didn't help either.
