work has been started on kit 23 but we won't be able to complete things until the wood for the tool box arrives in a couple of weeks.
some of the parts for the seat assembly are done...
tool box mounting brackets...
and rear trim pieces...
water lifter parts...
towing pins...
and shovels...

4" Burrell Kit 24
Shouldn't this be Kit 23 as we've just had 24??
Also still to come by my reckoning:-
Cylinder drain cocks and rod,
Cylinder cladding,
Lubricator and linkage,
Dummy manhole cover bridge,
Water gauge top bracket,
Gauge glasses and gear change items from Kit22.

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
yes, your right. kit 23, my mistake thanks for pointing that out.
and yes, your right again, the kit will also include the items you have listed
i have only posted the parts we have started work on, the rest of the items are either still in the form of stock bar or are on order. we have also had a load of laser cut items in but these are not worth posting until they are bent to shape.
the tool box wood has been cut but we are waiting for delivery and then we will have to do some final machining and the seat top "has" been sent to the upholsterers.
the production guides only cover a small "teaser" of the work we do and i currently trying to post something each week to keep the section alive. i will post more as the work continues

4" burrell bits
thanks for the update the build is going very well.
jus a reminder extra to cylinder cleading would be the bands.
drain cock spacers or threads.
also need the ashpan rear support bu41409
and excuse my ignorance but what is the NRV valve.
i also didnt recieve any cylinder top gaskets for guverner and safety valves.
would there be a slide on top of the cylinder regulator under the safety valve to hold the valve on its seat. (fouls the bottom of the safety valve.)
any chance of plan or pictures of a working governer in case anyone wants to make it work?
March still looks good for at least a good smoke and maybe champagne.
Tom
any suggestions for suppliers of the tube brushes

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
I have used a shotgun cleaning brush for mine. It has a nice walnut handle and you can change the head when it is worn. They even come in different diameters i.e. 12 bore 10 bore etc. Cost me about £8 second hand from Chichester armoury. Poshest tube brush you'll ever see !!! But then we are Burrell owners and not some of the other tat you see on the rally field.

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
thank you tom, yes some of those parts are in there as well. i'll get someone to look at your other queries on Monday
actually it wouldn't be a bad idea to add anything else that people have outstanding, just to make sure we don't miss anything. so if you can add to the list please do.
it's also worth mentioning that we are here to make sure you have a complete model at the end of all this, so just let us know if there is anything else you need, it may actually be that something will need to be charged for, i guess it depends on the circumstances, but don't be afraid to ask.

Tube brushes
My 4" Burrell is one of the early ones and has copper tubes, I use a brass tube brush however I heve found that they are all a bit tight and if left tend to flatten out too much as you push them through. To solve this I put the end in a cordless drill and hold it over a belt sander until it is a nice snug fit in the tubes. I have found that a tube brush will last a couple of seasons at the rallies and is fairly kind on the tubes. The steel tubes that you have will take a lot more punishment however the brush will last longer if it is the right size.
Bet you cant wait to have tubes to clean!

Steve

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
wow, thank you Tom. i'll get Steve to check over that list
just so you know, we are still waiting for the wood on this, so once that arrives we can get back on the kit. it is the next priority after the foden.

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
with the foden out of the way we are now back on this kit. the items below were actually photographed at the end of last week, hopefully all the rest of the work should also be done by now.
with the wood now here we can get the toolbox done...
it machines very well on the CNC as long as you have a nice sharp tool in the spindle...
these parts are having the lugs cut for the hinges. when we work on the wood we have to work very clean otherwise any grease on our hands will just contaminate the wood and make it look filthy. it can be ruined in a mater of seconds. it's best to have one guy working on the wood and nothing else...
tool box lock bar on the CNC...
and foot rest assemblies...

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
well the kit has gone at last so what happened to delay things then ?? well basically the original laser cuts for the cylinder cladding was unexceptable so we had to make a few tweaks and re-order them. unfortunately this put us at the back of the Que at the laser cutters and this has held the kit up for the last week we got the word that the new parts were ready on Wednesday and Steve went straight over to collect them
the rest of the parts have been sitting in the packing area for the last week. here's some more photos of what you can expect...
seat brackets during construction...
and seat tops...
water lifter pipes...
chimney extensions...
walk-boards...
and some of the parts boxed up ready to go...
and the last parts to be made. as soon as the new cladding was formed we got the brass trim pieces done and the boxes were sealed
you can see the brass strips loaded in to the jig and clamped in place for machining, the jig is basically a big deep groove cut in a long steel bar, this allows us to stack the strips five high and get the work done a lot quicker...

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
just an extra note to add to this...
when you get your kit you will notice that the lubricator box, lid and bracket are not there !!!!
there will be a letter covering this but basicly the castings are not yet done for these parts, we could have gone with the old modelworks style machined parts but we decided that the castings would be worth the wait.
also there was some confusion as to how many people had actually recieved their manhole clamps and so it seems that these were also left out of the kit
these parts will be sent out as soon as (possibly sometime in April) at no charge.
hope that helps

4" Burrell Kit 23
Good to have this final(?) kit. Now we can really crack on.
As well as the missing lubricator and parts mentioned, the oil check valve was also absent.
Are we to take it that the lubricator bracket already supplied and fitted is to be replaced?

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
yes, a new lubricator bracket will be supplied to suit the lubricator box
i will ask Steve to double check the oil check valves. it does seem that different people are missing different parts. i would suggest that anyone missing anything other than the lubricator assembly and the man hole clamp should contact STW personally with their requirements. if we can build up a detailed and accurate list of parts needed we can send out tailor made "final" parts.

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
Cheers Craig
I have a batch one burrell and was about to modify the box and lid as the lid just sits on with nothing holding it! i just thought instead of working with it i would just wait for you to produce the new ones as it has a hinged lid so no fear of it falling off in to the motion work plus it looks better.
And yes i am looking forward to steaming the burrell very shortly and to make it even better i will also be steaming the foden
Cheers

Re: 4 inch burrell kit 23
well if they are going to be that popular i'll have to get Steve to order some extras , but yes, you have hit the nail on the head, we could have produced those old style ones and sent them out last week, but these are much better and it seems quite a few people with batch one burrells are modding or changing them.
