Brian, unfortunately I will not be bringing along my engine. I had intended on doing so but had cancelled attending because to my wife was supposedly having an op and now that is cancelled. I do not have a method of transporting the engine as I had stopped trying to sort the trailer ramps out.

See you Saturday

Well have had a few distractions during the summer, sons wedding, and mother in law unwell and eventually dying, but have done a bit now and again on the engine;

i also managed to get down to Dorset on the Saturday when it was a bit dusty, Brians road loco on the STW stand black it was not! although looking at the photos of my engine show it covered in dust and it has yet to get sun on its back!

Hi ho.

Nice to see progress. I think the forum will let you off for the slow progress on the grounds of problematic life events.

I noticed your oilers. Got a suggestion. Before they get oily why not take all the lids off and knurl them to make them easier to screw on and off. I did mine by using one of the pots in the lathe and screwing each top on to it and hand turning agains the knurl tool. Makes life so much easier oiling up.

Hi Lynn,

Thanks for the suggestion on knurling the oiler lids, the one on the weighshaft tight against the governor pulley is a real challenge to open, not sure how I will achieve it as I do not have a lathe or knurling tool, will ask a couple of local guys if they can help.

That oiler harndly uses any oil, I just squeeze the oil through the hole in the lid. It only supplies the weighshaft rod as it runs back and forth. A more useful mod would be to find a way of stopping the oild being flung out of the lid whilst running covering the engine in it and allowing the dust to stick to it. Dont know if Tims mod has been successful but I would think it must help.

Have now received all kits except for 30b the crankshaft arrived last week. So have had a bit of a go at getting that fitted and the HP con rod fitted
Here is the flywheel and eccentrics drying in the warm after painting.

Ian, I have not been on the forum for sometime its good to see the progress you and the others are making, next year should be a top season for STW with these engines and the Foden wagons being completed.

Hi Brian,

Not run on air as yet still many holes to fill and not yet fitted the LP con rod. Plus need to make up the water gauge but slowly plugging the holes. I have turned it over by hand and no tight spots, but the water pump eccentric does not appear to be taking any oil so will need to look into that first.

have fitted the blower and lifter pipes, the lift hose connection as supplied does make the hose stick out. I will have to look into making up a 90 bend connector.

Progressing well.

Tony and myself did 90 bends using standard pipe fittings with the threads filled off.

I also did the bend, standard plumbing Yorkshire fitting and cut the STW hose connector so you use both ends with the bend in the middle. Not sure if Tim and/or Tony described it but it makes such a difference.

Did the same too, as has Andy. Standard 90 deg elbow with the thread filed off and then I used a 10mm pipe union soldered inside the bend and cut the original fitting in half and set both ends on the copper pipe union.

Hi thanks for the suggestions on how you did the 90 bend I really will have to try and do this, as the pipe does not look good sticking out as it is.
