Pissed Tony i asked the famous Bungle that same question the other day as i had heard a lot of good things about his engine and i wanted to see for myself. He has sent me some pictures to post on here as it seems he has made a first class job of his engine and every thing everyone has been saying is correct it is absolutly stunning but he cant work out how to post pictures on here
Anyway i will let the pictures and bungle speak for themselves oh and bungle are you going to steam the engine??
I also see the very hard working and very kind David Steel in the background of the second picture so if you are reading this David get some pictures up in the 4" thread.
Regards

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
Hi Mark, thanks for putting these pics on the forum
Bungle, you have yourself a smart looking engine.Well done, but I think you've spent far too much time on it
Joking aside,it will be a pleasure to hear how your first steaming goes.
Mark,I'm waiting for my last kit which should include the lubricator, the steam injector, some handles,a few bracket bits, and maybe the replacment steering chains,oh and a whistle!! Then I get a month or two off,and then its time to build 2 wagons. All being well I should be ready for Trevithick Day in Camborne next year which sould be 24th April.
There does seem to be a lot of burgundy engines in the photos forum, has anyone apart from Hugh and I (2" builders) gone for any other colour,I might paint my next one bright yellow.....ha ha!!!!!!!
Time to call it a night, cheer's for now,
Tony

This 'ere 2" Builder is still progressing as and when financial abilities let me do so, am up to assembly of the cylinder block and components at present (not wanting to f*** (FAFF) it up, I am taking my time with this part. But keep you eyes peeled (where the hell does that saying come from??? ) for future piccies n stuff..

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
"Wait & See" whilst stunningly bright and definately very different has one disadvantage, dun'alf show the shit up. I wanted to paint mine pigeon poo green but Mrs LilyJacks only demand (consider now gents that we DO have to bend a little when saying "oh by the way love, am gonna spend £6'000 on a traction engine okee dokes!! ) was that I paint me old dog in any colour other than green, bugger thought I, so went ahead with bugger and dee. Me 4" one that will one day come to fruition, WILL be pigeon poo green.
But, once a good years steamings been done, with all the coal, oil and crap thats gonna stick everywhere, rest assured, we'll all be proud owners of shitty black lookin engines hehehe.
Take it easy you lot, time for work..

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
Bungle,
looking good.. nice paint work I wish i was that far ahead...I also like the "wash the boiler out every 14 days" plate you have above the back head. I dont think STW are going to be providing one in the our kits.. shame would be a nice scale touch.. I'll get one made up like you I think..
Jo

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
Here are some photos of my 2" Burrel I am building in Australia. As yet it is unpainted. Still fitting some of the fiddly bits. when everything is the way i want it and it all fits and works, I will remove all the small bits and start to paint. Chri

Progress on my 2
I hope these pictures help anyone still building!
Today i started the final assembly of all the parts that were removed for painting etc.
I hope to get the diff and gear guards on tomorrow so i can get the wheels on!
LHS view
RHS view
blower valve and blast pipe
top view of boiler
valve gear
Gear change!
I am using some mollyslip on the splines, they are not glued in atm, do not think i will need to glue as the washer on the end holds them in place. we will see if this method works when she is running!
More pictures tomorrow! Jon

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
just put the wheels on
feeling very happy with progress... looks a bit small on the floor. I may have to build something much bigger next time!
how about a 6" compound?

thanks Hugh,
I am just waiting for a globe valve to arrive, which i will replace one of the boiler blanking plugs with, so i can test on air with the safety valves fitted. (and enable easy filling of the boiler)
going to send off the wheels for vulcanised tyres to be fitted and she will be complete. I know of some glued on tyres coming off an engine at Strumpshaw on Saturday!
I am very pleased with her, but now thinking of a slightly larger project!

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
Jon,
A slightly larger project!!!
Can i tempt you in to a 2" Road Loco or Showman's, even better a 4" Burrell Single Cylinder or 4" Road Loco / Showman's.
Or what about a Foden!
Got to try.
Always the salesman
Dean

mmm,
having built a 2" model i think the next one will have to be in a bigger scale
will hope to be over to see you soon, so you never know, but i was thinking of going slightly mad and have been thinking about a 6" Burrell...
would have to be a long term project too...

Re: Photo's of 2" Burrells
Not just yet Huge, I want to make sure that mechanically everything is sound and working exactly as it should be, nicely run in etc etc over the next few months with a few rallies, then, over the winter period, do some major tarting up, plating etc and look at the gas conversion with the jets and manifold I've made up, one thing at a time for now though and thats as I've said, just get it all running sweet as a nut, then strip back here and there and make bits all pretty n shiny...
