Your engine so far looks the mutts mate. Really very nice paintwork and generally dead smart looking. I'd be proud as punch with that effort matey

Like I said though, if mine turns out half as good as the models I've seen displayed here, I'll be more than happy. Roll on July 25th.. MAKE A NOTE DEAN N STEVE, I WANNA BE COMIN HOME WITH A BOILER SO MAKE SURE ONE OF EM'S GOT ME NAME ON (ps: 25th's a Saturday (am on nights that week)so if thats okay, that'd be grand...)
I'm sure I saw it in the workshop, it's made of copper n it's all shiny, bit like the top of my head (baldness sets in as I get older )..

Anyhow, back to me buildin.. IF you want any pics from start to finish on back wheel assembly, gimme a shout steve/dean. I'll take a few n stick em on.

I have just fitted smoke box and will remove piston and fit cladding / insulation next


Engine turns over very well by hand so hope to have a good air test. does any one know what the air usage is? and what RPM it will run at given max pressure of 100psi?

Thats a nice lookin well built machine there fella. I'm not certain as to running speeds but thinking along engineers lines, I'd suggest maybe kinda slow to begin with and plenty of oil everywhere to "Bed" the moving parts in. Less friction on any high spots and it'll smooth off the bearing/bearing ends(shafts) lovely jubbly but thats as an engineer not as a traction engine owner/driver so I'm sure others will have very different opinions chap..

Hi thanks for the vids .Well done

I Have just had the first run on air and all went well after some adjustments, as with previous posts, the flywheel was causing a banging noise, but tightening the grub screws onto filed flats cured that. I will have to ask Dean for a new key as you can throw mine in from about 2 feet. I have a lot of movement in the reversing lever and the linkage. I hope that the link into utube works, if not i will try again later.

Seems we have the same issues, Mine banged around because of the flywheel key but I am reluntant to hammer mine home as yet untill all the gears are on as I cant see how to remove it once it's in

Also saw your reversing lever rocking as the engine turned over. I think its because the link is fouling against the cleading and thus not letting the bronze link bush free movement at the changeover at the end of the stroke so it fouls and the whole lot moves.

I have looked at mine more closely and there are 2 options, bend the cleading with a hammer to cause a depression below where the lingage is fouling, or, alternatively remove the right hand halve of the bracket holding the linkage and file a chamfer on it so it clears the cleading.

I'll try the second option first and see how it goes.

Looking good though, seems we have all adopting similar colour schemes!

my flywheel key is also a poor fit, I have asked Isabel to send me a new one together with a few other bits, i have decided my expansion link brass nut is too loose so have ordered a spare. I have improved the fit of the eccentric straps on the valve gear and will sort the waterpump one this weekend, will then remove the cladding for painting.

I am very happy with how every thing now works

Well, if this has copied across correctly, here's where I'm up to now, not a really spot on job but my painting skills leave a lot to be desired hahaha. This was done SOBER as well!!!!!
Roll on next pay-day, one wants ones boiler and cylinder+cylinder parts....

DORSET WEATHER WAS VIAIBLE !! IT VARYED FROM SHOWERS TO 'KIN PISSING DOWN AT TIMES !!! ASK DEAN HE LOVED IT !!! BUT WHEN IT WAS DRY IT WAS GOOD. 5 DAYS WAS ENOUGH THIS YEAR. ENJOYED CHATTING TO PEOPLE ON THE STAND (WHEN I WAS THERE), AND IT WAS A HANDLY PLACE TO SHELTER AT TIMES TO !! ALSO A GOOD PLACE TO WATCH THE PASSING WOMEN FROM, BUT THATS ANOTHER MATTER !!!!
