Beugler striper Empty To Beugler or not

Post  lynnr Mon 17 Jan 2011, 11:41 am

Hi Malcolm

I have a beugler and it does make things very easy as long as you use it correctly.
You need to use the correct consistency of paint. I use the American 1shot lettering enamel.

You want to use a "turkey" baister to fill the Beugler as this reduces the waste.

There is occasions it does not work to well or require planning in how it goes. Landing and exit spots protected by masking tape etc.

Thanks Lyn, it looks like I will make the investment in one (£125 for the kit I had in mind)
Where do you get your paint from ??

Hi

http://www.pinstripinguk.com/

The paint is expensive but very good. It is a heavy weight paint and will cover all but the brightest base coat in one coat even with primrose yellow. Also you want to get a tin of the "reducer" as it helps the paint dry quicker and is used as a thinner if you want to use a brush.

I have also used the masking tapes. The Scotch® 471 Series BLUE Plastic Fine Line Tape. Gives razer sharp edges, easy to mold round corners and trims very neat.

And

I use the finesse pinstriping multi tapes as well for parallel lining in different colours.

I have a Beugler but found it too fiddly with a 2" model, it wouldn't reach in the small corners and ended up using pinstripping tape and one shot paint, easier and cheaper!

Thanks for that Al, what paint are you calling "one shot " ?? my first attempt at lining was a disaster, I had to sand down the cladding and re paint the darned things, they are now hardening off until I get back home for my next attempt at lining, I am not looking forward to doing it !!

Also if you are timid with it it gets messy.

Be positive and bold as this produces better results.

As a suggestion for practicing. Gloss photo paper acts very much like a painted surface and is easy to practice on. I do that before committing to the engine.

Cheers Hugh,

I have now got a Beugler wheel, a special pinstriping brush, all the special paints, finesse pinstripe stencil tapes etc etc etc. It just need the application of my crappy paint skills now !!!!!! I will do as Lynn says, and practise plenty on glossy paper cos the paint job on the rest of the machine is coming on beautifully, and I dont want to bugger it up again.. (Crimson lake)
"Rosie " is coming along in leaps and bounds now, I willl get some pictures online when I get home and get the boiler cladding lined and fitted, then its all pretty straight forward to completion for the spring.

I am still waiting for a triple cock wayer gauge , if I don't get it by the time I come home early Feb, I will just fit the STW glass as I want to get on. I am also very tempted to fit a hand pump as a back up, Tee'd into one of the existing water feed pipes.

Have a good day

Malcolm

Just in case you were thinking of doing it, dont fit the hornplates to the boiler untill you get the new water gauge assembly! It will all have to come apart again to fit it and I hate to hear a grown man cry!

If you fit the hand pump I would be very intertested in seeing how it looks as I haven't got around to fitting mine yet. I was thinking of putting it in the coal storage area amongst the coal and T ing it behind the nearside gear guards but haven't got any further than the thinking stage yet.
