Presedential Candidate??
Progress on the belly tank today.
Although I am doing the Road Loco I have ordered the star covers as well as I am going to design a monogram with my initials on the plain covers and then I can chop and change as the mood takes me.

More progress on my engine
Got the wheels back from being painted Friday and managed to get the first batch of lining done. The red outer lines will be a real pain to do due to the spoke shape etc and I have yet to pick out the letters on the hub in red, but very pleased with it so far. The second shot has the finished belly tank in the back ground. I shall be really glad when the boiler turns up and all these bits every where can be fitted to it.
Craig Hows it looking for the Axle kit (10) before Xmas??? Then we just need the boilers for the whole lot to hang together.

Re: Presedential Candidate??
Yes I dont have any facilities to clean or spray stuff here, I dont get a great deal of satisfaction from trying to remove the frankly teflon like scale that is on the wheels so I have a local metal finishers who are happy to do it all for me. I did spray the front end stuff in the shed in the summer with some special heat resistant paint but the wheels are so heavy and awkward to manoever that I just took them off and the metal finishers do it all for me at a good price. I can at least say on this build that I will have constructed and lined the components which will give me a great deal of satisfaction.
Ah
No problem. Just wondered. Though it was something like that.

Check out my big Belly for Xmas
Having got the castings last week my powder coaters were able to get them done just before shut done and now I have been able to line them so heres the assembled belly tank. Not exactly as the President but close enough so you wouldnt know without a reference photo and certainly good enough for me.
Cant wait to get the boiler here as it will look really good when all this hangs together.
Merry Xmas to all, hopefully see some of you during 2011 at various events.
All the Best Kev.

Re: Presedential Candidate??
Only things done recently are finally getting round to painting the name rings and polishing the letters back and putting the chimney cap on the bench polisher and attaching it. All up to date otherwise just waiting..... and yes patience is a virtue and anticipation is quite a nice feeling too. Souldnt be long now though judging by the updates.
Presidential candidate takes shape
Went and got the boiler today and said Hi to all at STW nice to put faces to names and voices! Managed good time getting home and the weather was really nice so made a good start at assembly and finally manged to clear some of the numerous pieces being stored all over. Heres the progress today and for those who need inspiration I hope this whets the appetite (especially Graeme81)
Just unloaded from the van and washed off the outside ready for and quick coat to make it look tidy. The smoke box went on quite easily just needing the top of the boiler to be gently tapped with a hammer after slight heat deforamtion took it off true
Having got the whole front end on some one else is pleased to finally see the boiler too!! At least dad might stop going on about the bloody thing every night Not least because it means we can run this on a tandem seat as the engine is so heavy theres little danger of it rearing up if we sit on together
Tomorrow all the rear end will go on and I will get a really good idea of the finished size, have been considering playing a tape of sound effects from Dorset in the garage and lighting a smoker in the chimney for effect but I think thats just a little too sad!!!
Do I need to sleep tonight???

Happy Birthday Mr President !!
As discussed heres the rolling chassis.
I would like to give a huge cheer to STW at this point as this really is a serious milestone in the construction. For me the most integral part of the build is the boiler as everything hangs on it and to have got to the point where they are available shows great promise. The doubters out there can hopefully be silenced once and for all.
The chassis is only cosmetically assembled at this stage due to various factors but how satisfying to see this and my isnt it BIG!! The machining of the parts is so good there were no issues with assembly at all, except those parts where I had got paint on as the tolerances are so good it makes things bind or lock up. Only a couple of small chips occured and mostly in places which will be hidden or can be touched up
Thank you Steve Dean Craig and all the others who go into making this available for us, I hope we do your work proud.
( Whens the next kit due.... I've done this one and I'm bored now... )
Colin wheres yours????

Re: Presedential Candidate??
congrats highpressure - she is a pretty fantastic looking engine!
just one thing i dont like about it......its gonna make my time over here go even slower!!!!! think ill have to buy a wilesco to keep my steam addiction under control, as there is no sign of a 'real' traction engine anywhere over here.
i have a long way to go to catch up as i only have the front wheels and front axle and perch, kits 1 and 2.
dean, steve dont sell the rest of my engine because as Arnie once said - I'LL BE BACK!!!
