A question for Road Loco customers

The motion covers on Ex-Mayor are two steel sheets that are bolted to the hornplates and brackets fixed to the cylinder block. They can be easily removed for access and maintenance. The left hand motion cover on The President follows the same practise. The right hand one however is different. It does not have a seperate bracket on the cylinder and is folded at 90 deg so the motion cover itself is attached directly to the cylinder. This makes it very difficult to remove.

The question is: Would you prefer authenticity and sacrifice ease of maintenance or would you prefer the more practical approach? The photographs we've supplied of Ex-Mayor shows the sheets quite clearly but our photos of The President have the motion covers removed. You can see the covers quite clearly on some of the Steam Scenes photographs.

From a production point of view, we would prefer to keep the Showmans and Road Loco the same, but what do you think?

I have seen both up close and to be honest it's a small detail that I won't worry about. Once its all painted/covered in soot and oil you'll never notice.

I say go with the ex mayor ones.

Keep it simple.....

Easy to remove from looking after the motion

Having put in all those bloody rivets bolts lets make it as easy to maintain as possible go for the Ex Mayor ones.

I would, of course, favour 'Ex Mayor'. However, Ian Barker's SRL(S) has the RH cover as per 'The President' and he simply has the right angle bit pushed over two studs coming out of the cylinder with no nuts on them: therefore, easy to remove.

Thanks for the input. I had considered Tims suggestion and even having springs and washers on the studs so the motion plates would be pushed towards the cylinder. I was concerned that the motion plate might rattle whilst go along. I surpose that depends on the strength of the spring though.

If the motion cover had a couple of rubber grommits where they fitted onto the studs on the cylinder it would stop any rattle (and scratched paint)
