Stanley steam car at STW
got into the factory this morning to find this...
and why is it here? well, because of these...
Although Steve has been very quiet about this, he's actually in the process of building TWO of these things. A "not so little" project of his that he works on after we have all gone home. it's a bit like the elves and the shoemaker when you come in in the mornings.
although most people picture Steve as someone who is stuck behind a computer all day (which is actually quite true) he's also a very skilled "hands on" engineer as well. Anyone who has seen his "track engine" will agree with this. not my kind of thing but very impressive to see

Hi Ian
The reg on the back of the model R is actually of my lorry which towed the car to our workshop.

Steve

I agree with Ian. I thought diesels were always dirty, noisy, smelly things.

Exactly, but what can you expect from a German inventor
Seriously though everything in it's place and that car is not the place for an old oil burner.

Re: Stanley steam car at STW
Steve is still making steady progress on his project, now working on the front hubs and axles.
look closely at the photos below and you may think that these parts have been made from castings. actually Steve is using a 3D CNC program which carves these parts out of solid material, im sure you've all seen the same sort of thing on TV. unfortunately each part takes hours instead of minutes so its not really suited to our high volume production. the main Axel is tube is... well just tube really ...

Wow! I am in awe with respect...
This project is totally of the chain.... I recently began work on my copy of the Al Martin R and I find this greeting me. I had to join the forum all the way from Estes Park, Colorado, USA on account of this work. You guys are simply put, OUTSTANDING! The running gear is a true work of art regardless of how many electrons you guys burned to hog it out.

Re: Stanley steam car at STW
Hey Craig
How about some up to date pictures of the cars for Devon over in Colorado, I saw Steve working on the rear axle drive mechanism last week (to be more priceise, angle grinding it) and all the wheels are on plus lots more work is done.
Sorry to ask, I know you are always pushed for time with this forum stuff
