Running on air Empty Running on air

Hi all I'm sure someone on here can help me ,tried to run engine on air at the weekend so filled tender and boiler connected air line but all I got was water blowing out of the water filler on side of tender what have I done wrong please help

First of all when running on air there is no need to put water in the boiler
Second where did you connect the air supply to?
