Quick question, has anyone re used the por 15 tank sealer?
I bought a big tub so I could use it for the tender, belly tank and possibly the bowser.
Any ideas?
Also what did any one use to seal the tender off? Will duct tape work?

I should think POR 15 is an ideal way to seal your tanks!!
What ever you use it's a bloody messy job!!... As long as the POR 15 doesn't dissolve the plastic part of the Duck tape, it should be fine, otherwise use masking tape!

Before you seal the tender or belly tank I found it pays to go around the corners with a small ball pein hammer just tightening up the joints. It stops the POR15 running out (so much!). I found the steel quite malleable for this so you don't have to tap it very hard to close up the gaps. Also I painted the POR15 on and didn't slosh it around. The first time I sloshed it around I found it still didn't cover everything and there were large drips everywhere inside & outside. After that using a brush was much more civilised and did a good job. Two or three coats done fairly close together (next day) and make sure there is good coverage on the rivets as from experience that is where any rust will start from.

Also I found the the stuff doesn't keep very long once it's been opened, so I buy it in small tins, one tin one tender.cheers

Hi

Looking good. Just a reminder. Make sure the brake tube is well sealed to the flanges. Otherwise you might get water coming out the oil points!

How do I know this. Well it happened.

Hi

It's too tight a view. You need to add a picture to set context.

Ah got it now.

No you are ok with the height. The boiler does have a gap as the horn plates bolt on to the raised portion of stays.

I actually used isoflex and left the end off that faces the boiler. Painted up everything including the face of the panel left off. The put panel on and it just left a run round the joint when everything else was dry. Easy to put hand in with brush to finish.
