Kit 3 advice
Hi all
After a bit of advice
Firstly I hVe attached chimney to chimney base with the 6 ba nuts and bolts, but around the side of the chimney boss are 4 u filled holes? What are they for?
Secondly do I need to folic paste the chimney to the chimney base and also the door ring to the smokebox? Not sure as instructions only mention foliacing the chimney base to the smoke box!
Thanks in advance

The foliac only goes between the base of the chimney and the smoke box.
The 4 holes should have rivet headed bolts in.
As far as i can remember, will check when i get home and let you know

Re: Kit 3 advice
Seems your at the same stage as me after receiving kits today! Has anyone got any tips eg assembly before paint what to bolt together and what not to? I'm having my wheels vulcanised at a later date but axles and smoke box will be painted soon sorry for stealing a post but it's easier than starting another on the same kit lol

Re: Kit 3 advice
I have been painting my kits as I go. I painted front wheels after assembly. The front axle straight away and the smoke box didn't get don't until the boiler arrived. I figured that there wasn't much point as it may have got chipped and knocked as I fitted the ring of rivet bolts onto the boiler.
Rear wheels were bone once assembled. Tender and hornplates were in danger of going rusty over winter so I assembled tender and painted while the hornplates were assembled and then stripped for painting.
It might not be to everyone's taste but that's how I've done it.

Re: Kit 3 advice
I had to do a bit of fettling with mine till I was happy with the rear seam, more JB Weld to the rescue.
But I am sure a picture would be helpful!

Re: Kit 3 advice
Looks about the same as mine was, I used a bit of wet and dry plus little bit of JB Weld and was happy.
At the end of the day, I wanted the hand made look

Re: Kit 3 advice
My chimney wasn't anything to shout about but it didn't take much to clean up and file in places. A few coats of paint and it looks fine.
