Great thread and good progress with a nice colour scheme. Shouldn't this be in the owners photos section though?? This is where all the build threads are, this section is usually for specific problems/solutions discussions like your rear hub issue. Keep up the good work though.

with the rear wheels fitted and modified to the way i wanted them i have managed to fit the rear wheel trims to my model, these are the front two trims turned backwards to imitate the dish of a full size engine, these are held in by two small bolts that protrude from the spacers i remade.

Hi phil

Ive got a engine crane that has a portable stand i will post pictures when i get to that stage, it's only a home made one that my dad made but it does the job, and can hold a fair bit of weight, ive had motorcycles hanging off it for months when i have been restoring them

Hi Russ.
The big day has arrived, kit 1 is here.
Just one or two little problems mainly was sent 3 sets of page 3 of the assembly drawings.
Any chance of emailing me a copy of page 1 and 2 please if you get a chance. Have asked STW for them but don't know when I will get them.
Will post pics soon.
Phil.
P.s.
Your photos have helped me work out at least which way up the chassis go's.

Hi Phil

The build is goign rather slowly atm, Haven't had a lot of free weekends as been out with a friend to a local pumping station with his miniature Burrell and also been working on a 16Ton Fowler plowing engine at a museum i volunteer at, but when i am free i busy my self with painting, which the weather isnt allowing me to do very fast, No pictures to update there will be some when i have the wheels back on and it on the ground.

Hi Russ.
Thanks again for the pictures, very helpful - (STW email a set through to me).
Not much progress on the old chassis just collecting the bits required before i start - brushes, paint primer, under coat (best red) have not make my mind up yet on the main colour except its going to be red? Which shade that is? sand paper flappy wheel and so on. Plus still working on my old project a 2" Clayton steam wagon. getting very exciting engines almost finish just reassembling the slid values after making some gland fixing nuts making/adding the gaskets. Its taken almost 2 years to make. should have it in steam next year??????? hopefully.
But will be starting the Chassis soon hopefully over Christmas.

Received another kit today this time it was the Steering and rear brake, lots of bits to paint and clean up, this kit probably wont be started until after Christmas so there will be updates and photos then, before i can even test fit parts i need to finish painting all the wheels, spacers and hubs

Great news about the arrival of your kit Russ.
It's alway nice then they turn up, mine is due tomorrow.
It's working out very expensive as the little women gets a box of chocolates for waiting in!
The fridge is full of the stuff after paint from craftmaster arrived, paint brushes (purdy) from Amazon. Still it keep her happy plus I do sneak the odd piece now and again. Very Happy
All the best

Hi Russ.
Kit 2 arrived this afternoon and very nice it is to. The front axle assembly and sring assemble.
Only one small problem, they only sent Qty 2. Oilite bushes instead of four - deep sigh.
I have email STW about this and eagerly await 2 more. So assembly is out of the question.
So far I have received two kits and have had problems with both.  Crying or Very sad
But I am not given up no way least this time it is only a minor thing unlike the first kit!
How's your new kit.

Hi Phil

Shame your missing parts but i no from that experience my self Steam traction are excellent and very efficient on getting them to you,

My new kit is all right i may need to remove and re weld a bracket on the Steering column as this part wont go over my chassis at all, rather unfortunately scratched the chassis trying to get to fit but this has shown me some problems with the etch primer not adhering to the chassis rail properly, so looks like i may have to strip all down to metal again and re do properly this time with Red Oxide.

Other than that all is good and im progressing slowly mum has allowed the use of the conservatory for painting the rear hubs and spacers so hopefully before new year she should be on all 6 wheels

Sorry to hear about your problem. Hope you can sort it out quickly.
I know STW will sort things out it just one of those things.
Still Rome was not built in a day.
Take care.

Hi Phil

No Rome wasn't built in a day, and if an engine was built in a day it certainty wouldn't be a very good one. Ive managed to sort the steering column out today (well rather my dad has as i cant weld) the top bracket was 2.5mm to low so had to be ground off and re welded in position, now that's done Ive noticed i have one part missing nothing to major just a Connecting Rod Pin, also noticed the connecting rods are slightly to wide to fit int he steering column so these will have to be slightly filed down in thickness so they will slide in and out.

Intrested in your faulty steering column. Just wondering if this was a one off?
Myself, I have dry fitted the leaf spring suspension to the front axle the morning. The spring hanger pivots were about 0.5mm too wide but sorted that out. Just requires sanding down and painting now (will keep me out of trouble over the Christmas).
It's a nice looking bit of kit.

Well despite needing to paint the wheels, and some adjustment to the steering as its rubbing on one of the tyre's, today i managed to get Iris on her wheels and couldn't resist a photo outside in the snow.

Next job is to look at the steering get that sorted out, then get the rear axle lined up which may require one of the rear springs turning around so it looks symmetrical to the other side once adjusted, then the rear brake trial fitting before everything is taken back off again for painting and final fitting

Nothing to report change wise on the engine, unfortunately it has had to be put to one side for a while so i can do some much needed maintenance on my Show Bike, However during this maintenance i have had to set my crane's frame up, and i no Phil was asking how i intend to lift my engine up and down off its stands so i have decided to put a picture up to show you all how i intend to do this, I also intend to use this crane to get the future boiler and any other really heavy parts in place

I must say, you have a great looking work shop, I mean size wise.
I think they had a crane about that size when they built the titanic? Very Happy
Quick question Russ, that's a mean looking set of tyres you have (top left).

yer it is a little big we were very lucky that the council gave everyone on out street some free land as they found the origional boundrys were all wrong from many many years ago when the house's were built, our neighbors didn't want there land so we brought it off them and that is where the workshop stands.

The crane isnt that big the picture makes it look way bigger than it is, same with the tyres there off a old Roper 11 tractor mower that my dad used to own no idea why we still have them on the shelf but you never no

Right been a while since ive posted on here, i had a little problem with my steering on the foden the Right hand track rod arm was causing the ball joint to rub ion the tyre, One of my engineering friends has very kindly cut and re-welded the part up so now the ball joint is clear of the tyre

Here are the pictures of the job, i have also turned the bar around that connects from the steering wheel to the right hand track rod as i feel it look better this way

Hi Russ.
Looking good, but it's a shame you had to fix a problem that should never have happened in the first place (STW).
February has now gone and still no kit 3. (January kit) I only hope STW are on top of things?
Still I know they are doing there best.
Keep the pictures coming please, alway good to see them.
