Re: Kevs road loco
Hi Kevin
Looking wonderful. Nice idea threading the keys. Have you done the mod to the 3rd gear boss?
While I remember watch the clearance on the reverser reach rod. As it is very close to the cleading. I modified my pin to have a split pin to hold it on to the expansion link.

Re: Kevs road loco
Thanks Lynn,
Yes 3rd gear mod done,
Thought threading the keys gives a better chance of getting them out if i need to
I will keep an eye on the reach rod and alter if I need to

Re: Kevs road loco
Hi Kev,
Make sure you cut out the hub for the third speed gear. I have managed to do it after the gearing was on (not a nice job post mounting) it just means I can now get to the bearing housing (as I had a horrible knock to resolve).

Re: Kevs road loco
I thought it looked a bit livelier than crimson lake. I used Marshall Crimson as being a nice bright lake, on 'Frederick', following the recommendation of Richard Wilcox, the livery steward and chairman of the RLS.

Looking good so far. Is that the STW lubricator or a replacement?

Re: Kevs road loco
Have you got any gland packing in there??? They look very close to the block?? Ideally you want about 10mm free space after they are tight so you can take up a bit of slack as they bed in, at least 3 or 4 pieces of packing.
Re: Kevs road loco
Its a replacement lubricator, I havnt put any packing in the glands yet thats why they are so deep, dont worry Kev I wont forget to put it in when im ready to run the engine.
Thanks

Re: Kevs road loco
Nice work Kev, looking good now and must be giving you some satisfaction as your engine grows as parts are adding for the final time. Interesting to see you have done the splash guard for the drive gears too. I have to say I have not noticed much coming off the gears onto the belly tank as much gets everywhere anyway. I do oil them now and again too.

Re: Kevs road loco
Thanks Brian,
I am getting there , as the bits go on my shed is getting smaller though!
Its turning into quite a beast .
The gear guard might stop a bit of oil flying about but I know engines like these get covered
with all sorts anyway, poor Tony what will he do?
