New Boiler Washout? Empty New Boiler Washout?

Post  Ian G Fri 08 Nov 2013, 7:12 am

So the day has finally come and my boiler has arrived. A quick look over it and the welding quality looks first rate. The guys next door that weld over at a structural steel fabricators were impressed.

The boiler is or rather was full of swarf, I have removed this with the aid of an air line and a magnet on a stick. How do you go about cleaning all the cutting oil residue from the inside of the boiler?

Wait until assembled, light a fire in it a watch it prime all over the new paintwork for the first few steamings.... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously though I suspect if you blasted it with a Karcher a few times it would help, if its any consolation not only did I not wash it out I didnt get any of the swarf out either... affraid affraid Evil or Very Mad  No idea where it is now ??

so so so true Kev, Razz Sad . All these engines look sooooo nice before a fire is in them. Don't forget if you have a steam leak it gets engraved into your paint and you can't get it out.

I nearly mentioned your engine Tony as a reference but your other engine looks really good too and that has been steam a few times.  By the way I will be in Dounreay for the next 4 weeks, not far from you.  I have to get two flights to get to Wick,  I understand the locals are still having/taking summer holidays as its only windly:P Razz Razz Razz   Well if the ausies beat you this weekend I will have some fun next week.
