we have started work on this kit now. we have some rivet bolts on one of the lathes and i have just started on some of the channel sections.

Re: 6 inch foden kit 1 (yes we have started !!!)
work is coming on well now.
the main chassis sections have been started, although steve is having to do them on his "open" machine as they wont fit in our CNC's...
cross members are on the machines...
and the mounting plates for the ends are done...
still lots of brackets to do...

Hi Craig,
Great to see some progress on the chassis's for the 6" Foden. Do you know when we are likely to see the first kit?
Regards,
Hugh.

Re: 6 inch foden kit 1 (yes we have started !!!)
Hi Hugh,
If i was being honest we are probably looking at the end of next week. I know this will be slightly disappointing for everyone as it will be a week or more behind the original schedule but the delay has really been down to the steel suppliers cocking up the cutting on the channel TWICE.
It's been all hands on deck at STW with both Steve and I working on the shop floor since last week trying to assist getting this and the R/L Showmans kits out the door. All being well this kit being late shouldn't have any knock on's so the next kit should still be on time.
All the best
Dean

Re: 6 inch foden kit 1 (yes we have started !!!)
OK, the long awaited photos...
we have done a lot of work on this over the last week. remember that a lot of these parts are cut from solid steel, and the size of the chassis channels means they have to be machined in sections due to the limit of travel on the machine. i hope you will all be happy with our efforts...
OK, first off, remember those brackets above (two brackets from one box section). these are the spring guides and are now done...
these slipper plates will sit inside the spring guides...
radius rod brackets are a fabricated part, from this...
to this...
and then finally this...
these are the brake shaft brackets/bearings...

Re: 6 inch foden kit 1 (yes we have started !!!)
on here we have a few laser cut parts, the long truss at the back is a C-type part...
mounted on these brackets...
these are the corner gussets...
and the SWB will have this tow bar arrangement...
these are finished SWB chassis rails...
and the C-type rails from our control model...
not a very flattering photo, but here you can see Steve working on the control model. at this point he's just finished cleaning up the parts and is laying them out on the floor...

OK, photos of the finished (as in kit-1 being finished) control "models". To sort of quote a famous film featuring a big rubber shark...
I think your gonna need a bigger shed !!!!!

I can recommend the Machine Mart engine hoist that Tim and I use, I think you are all going to need one.

Control model photos
Craig
These are great photos of the control model. I haven't got my first kit yet but I can see from these photos exactly what work is required and what my kit will look like. I know you are very busy but photos like these posted on the forum before we get each kit would be great!!
