Re: Winter arrived
Yes I know what you mean, it's nearly single figures outside now and yesterday the sun only shone in a clear blue sky until 4pm!!!! I seem to remember snow we have seen it once or twice in the last 20 years!!!!
Re: Winter arrived
I don't even want to see snow, unless its on a postcard!

More snow
Hi Lynn
Sound like you could do with Steve's Hornsby chain tractor up your way, that was designed for snow!
Now that would be a good kit, probably have to mortgage the house though!

Winter Blues!
First rain, then snow, then rain, then wind & rain, then wind and snow........... Now the whole lot has frozen solid!!!
That's the weather here for the last four days! It's so slippery out there that it is almost impossible to stand up & my Defender just went side- ways instead of forwards off the drive this morning............... absolutely no chance of going up any road that has an incline on it. ( Bamby on ice springs to mind!!)
I'm now working on my car, I think it's computer "shorted out" or something.......... When my daughter & I got back last night & I locked the car it went "mad"............. The lights flashed the wipers came on the indicators did some really wierd flashing then it kind of died!!
Then at 11.00 pm it all came to life again on it's own, so out I went in the pouring rain/snow & wind & disconnected the battery, just to shut it up!!
I now have it all in bits & not a hope of fixing it I think............ Bloody modern "fly by wire" technology is beyond the likes of a Traction Engine builder. I can fix the Defender & have done on many an occassions, but this is going to have to go to "them's that know" & their computer & they know how to CHARGE!! Could have spent that on the next few kits from STW!!
Happy Days!!
Tony

Know what you mean!
My old winter stead was a Defender90 3.5V8 EFI removed and carb's installed. Needed 3 wires to work :-)
Mud terrain boots with snow chains on all 4. What fun in the snow and Ice
Discovery = Normal driving as on road tyres. Alarm system went mad. Disconnected the master fuse. Jumped the starter and she ran well. Humm so much for engine immobiliser.
Now got a Freelander2 with over 100 fuses in 5 different panels.
Got lashed with rain yesterday with the wind so all the snow gone for now :-(

Re: Winter arrived
Hi lynn,
Not snowing here...................yet!!
Everything still frozen solid though!!
Car back together again... seemed OK to start............ Started engine, everything fine & working, warmed her up, then turned off ignition....
Nothing happened.............. engine kept going....... then after a few seconds, engine stopped & everything went mad again....... So I've disconnected battery & will try to get it to a garage tomorrow!!
Typical, it's now out of warrenty *!?%

Hi Tony.
What's the prognosis. Is the car a goer or is it find a quiet lane and a can of accelerant!

The Car!!
Hi Lynn,
Thanks for asking...............
Plugged the battery back in & started car & took it to local garage.............. When I got there, turned off ignition & engine stopped & everything didn't light up, so, it had started to work as it should!!!!!!
Left it there for them to plug into their computer thing to find any "give away" fault codes which might enlighten us as to what was up......................... However the cumputer says "Nothing wrong"..(I hate that, cos it'll probably happen again when I least need it!!)................. so I've got it back home again & it's sitting on one very icey drive!!
I'm using my Defender to get about till this ice goes somewhere else!!
Regards,
Tony

The Car!!
Hi Tony
Is it not just the cold that is confusing it. When I worked nightshift at St Fergus Gas Plant, I had a Renault 21 (new at that time) and some of the limited electronics in that used to go haywire overnight in the winter, especially the memory in the radio. Try keeping it warm and cozey!!
Regards
Tom (in warm(er) Fife)
