next foden kit
just had the folder for the next foden kit. this contains the front mudguards and various brake parts.
some of the bits are in stock and some are brand new parts that we need to make.
also i need to get the redesigned man hole clamp done so it can go in this kit
just a quick photo of all the gauges on the control model...

Re: next foden kit
we have a delay on this kit because steve is making some SWB/artic mods to the mudguards. most of the new bits are laser cuts

Re: next foden kit
Steve was working hard on this next kit on Friday. he is also at the stage of making sure the last few kits contain everything needed to finish the models and nothing more.
the modelwork kit contents were a real mess so this is no small task. both Dean and Steve have been away at a lot of shows recently so progress is slow at the moment. we are getting there. please bare with us

Re: next foden kit
well the good news is, Steve has been sorting out the last few kits, cleaning up all the model works mess etc, so we should get these very soon and then we can get them sorted.
so once things start moving again it should go quite smoothly.
we are aware that the foden and lyka people are long overdue a kit and they will get priority as soon as we can make progress.
PS: new man hole clamps are done

Manhole clamps
Hi Craig
Good to hear about the foden kits - all I want is one big parcel to let me get it finished and painted.
Also good to hear about the manhole clamps - mine came "loose" at the weekend at a rally so my temporary fix wasn't good enough!! I presume they will be sent out with the first kit?
Regards

Re: next foden kit
Hi Craig,
I assume the R/H clamp is the old clamp and the L/H clamp is the new one if so what is the big lump on the bottom is this part of the machined part or a bit stuck on the bottom, a photo of it in situ would be good.

Handhole clamp
Hi Ian
My clamp came loose at the last steaming . I had modified it by fitting "spacers" underneath it but still wasn't able to get it tight enough. This modified one looks as though it should do the job.

Re: next foden kit
Hi Tom,
Yes I had heard about your little mishap, I was trying to assertain if this was a new clamp or a modification of the old one, I was assuming it was a mod due to the fact that it looked like it was in two parts, had it been a new manufactured part then it would been machined as one.
Well thats my take on it anyway, soo it looks like things are moving on the Foden front again it will be nice to get the last couple of kits and then it puts this one to bed for STW, when I finish mine I will have to consider what we do next have you had any thoughts what your doing next??
Ian

Re: next foden kit
Hi Ian
At the moment I have no intention of doing another kit, I just wan't to spend time enjoying this one (and perhaps finish off some of the other outstanding projects, like stationary steam engines and boilers that I started a few years ago.).

Re: next foden kit
nope, both clamps in the pic are the new one. this is just to show how it was made. the large lump on the bottom of the first one is used to hold it in the vice. if you can imagine a solid lump of bar in the vice, the shape is milled from that lump, then its turned over into a pocket and the lump is milled off and the part is finished... 2ops
the bar we used was a bit on the large side, we wouldn't usually waste that much material, but the bar was ordered before the design was finished.
as for a photo of it in place... well its actually very difficult to fit to the control model at the moment because of the con rods etc. I'll get a pic of it on a new boiler and post later

Re: next foden kit
OK, this kit should go out as planed but fitting it to the control model has shown up a weakness in the brake band on the rear hub.
this was only used as a hand brake before, but now thats it's also being operated by the foot brake it has proven NOT to be up to the job. basically the rolled section on the end has... un-rolled
rather than delay this kit anymore, the kit will be sent as is and new laser cut brake bands will be ordered and sent out later as a replacement "stronger" part.
