front wheels (help needed please)

Hi all
Built the front wheels almost a year ago. Have now gone to fit them to the engine and i have a problem.

I can't screw the 8BA screws into the hub, as excess resin has come up through the holes.

What is my next step ?

Hi all
Some one in work today suggested that i re-tap the hole with an 8ba tap.

Is this the way to go? If so should i re-drill the hole first ?

You may be able to use a pencil gas torch to heat up the resin and allow the screw to be threaded in.

Would it be better to heat up the screw, then screw it into the thread so i don't disturb the rest of the resin on the inside face of the hub ?

run a tapping size drill or slightly smaller down into the hole then carefully re tap the hole.

probably be best to use 8ba taper tap then follow it up the the plug tap, take things nice and slowly dont use too much force and back off frequently.

One additional point, if the resin has come up the threaded hole past the threads into the hole in the outer hub you may find that a tapping drill does not follow the tapped hole.

If this is the case, and only if - I would recommend using a drill the same size as the clearance hole first. Go in carefully in small amounts until you reach the threaded portion. This ensures that when you use the tapping drill you are in line with the threaded portion. Use the tappng drill to clear the resin in the threaded part.

As Kevster says, go easy on the tapping, 1/4 or 1/2 a turn at a time and turning back 1/2 turn each time to clear the resin you have cut.
