TDC  of the piston stroke Empty TDC of the piston stroke

Can anyone confirm which end o the piston stroke is construed as TDC, is it the end nearest the crank or is it the front end of the cylinder !!

top end of the cylinder. The point where the cylinder volume is at its smallest.

Thanks, but its a double acting pistion so that could be either end !!!
Aparently the TDC is at the forward end of the engine...
