I have just started a Burrell 2" Traction Engine kit. Has anyone hand painted one? If so,what paints did you use? If not, hat other methods of painting were used? I would appreciate expert opinions.

I brush painted my 4" Burrell using Craftmaster paints. 1 coat primer (on steel parts),followed by 2 coats undercoat and 2 coats topcoat. Undercoats rubbed down with 600 or 800 paper used wet, and topcoats with 1000 or 1200 paper also wet. Followed by Farecla G3 Rubbing Compound and G10 Finishing Compound. This leaves a dullish shine which I, personally, find most acceptable. On brass of course use an etch primer first.
The paint finish even merited favourable comments in the modelling press !! See 'Engineering in Miniature' January 2010 p.225.
Best of luck,

I should have added that I used the best quality sable brushes. Expensive but worth it!
