Burrell 4inch eccentric rods
I have disconnected the con rod from the crankshaft to see if I can work out the reason why it is locking up.
I put both the eccentrics and the rods on.......
I only get half a turn of the crankshaft then crankshaft locks up.
I disconnect either eccentric rod and the crankshaft is free to turn.
Built the eccentrics and the rods to the plan size.
Also the correct way to time the eccentrics please.
Thank you for any help,
Bill M

I had the same problem with my burrell and if you tighten up the bolts on the eccentric strap it locks it to the eccentric as there was a high spot i spoke to Steve about it and he suggested putting valve grinding paste on the eccetric and fitting the straps and spinning it with plenty of wd40. I done this and my eccentrics are bang on i can tighten up my bolts and they spin freely. Be carefull not to go over board and use the fine paste and not the course.
The timing should be in the instructions as i have just done this to mine in the last week. If you need any help just pm me.
The eccentrics dont actually get timed this is done at stw by the place that the keyway is machined the only adjustment is in the reach rod and the valve rod
Cheers

Re: Burrell 4inch eccentric rods
I should maybe of said make sure you give them a good clean before refitting them including in the oil hole as we dont want them to carry on grinding them selfs in so we end up with slack eccentrics! And make sure the eccentrics go on as per the iso as this is part of the timing as well

Re: Burrell 4inch eccentric rods
As the rods run very close I would check that they are not hitting. I you watch, as you turn up to the point of lock, you may be able to see which bit is coming into contact. I would pay special attention to the flange where the rod bolts on to the eccentric sleeve.
