Ashpan Problem
Hi all, got a question for you. I had Kit 14 come Wednesday. I have been working on the ashpan. I have put the damper on but it only opens 10mm.
The damper hits on the hing bracket bolts, has anyone had this problem too?
If so, how have you gotten over it.
I have been thinking about gluing the bracket on and just using one nut and blot instead of the two.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Re: Ashpan Problem
Hi Charlie, join the club! I had exactly the same problem. You'll need to file the front of the ashpan until it closes properly.
that was the advice from Steve. I also found that the hinges slightly picked up on the top of the ashpan. I found the dremel was handy for this. Its worth mentioning, that mine was marked control, so i guess that all ashpans after mine may be the same.

Re: Ashpan Problem
Hi Mike
The damper closes ok, it just doesn't open very wide. The maximum gap, in the open position, is 10mm. I don't think that is enough to let the air in to get enough draft for the fire.
My problem is, the hinges you bolt to the sides of the ashpan, catches on the damper when I try to open it. The flat, on the top of damper, hits the nuts the hold the hinges for the damper door.
I have been giving it some thought and now thinking of filing the damper door corners, as they miss the nuts. When closed it should close any holes against the firebox ring, so no air, draft it aloud to fan the fire.
Will have another play tomorrow and try and sort problem.
Thanks for your reply.
