Re Foden Pump
Hi Guys (and Gals)
My pump definitely clanks when putting into the boiler, not nearly as noisy when returning to the tank. I put it down to the lift on the ball in the clack but I haven't investigated any further. It has always been noisy and I have steamed about 560 hours now. Important thing is that it works!!
Regards
Tom

Re: Foden pump
Just watched a video of mine running and yes it is a normal noise and i wasn't pumping into the boiler at the time, i think its the two balls int he pump that cause the noise

Re: Foden pump
I adjusted the lift on the ball to the rear of the wagon (less lift) I think it is that one that is making all the noise.
I wonder if anyone has tried a PTFE ball instead of stainless steel.
All the best

Re: Foden pump
I have used nitrile balls in my 3 inch Burrell engine water pump for about 4 years now with no problems,I used the next size
ball up from the specified steel one .
Nitrile is ok for the pump but not recommended for steam.
Have a look see the biggest one you can get in without restricting the flow too much.
They have worked for me,you can get them from model engineering suppliers.
Hope this is of some help

Re: Foden pump
Hi all, Thanks for the replies.
Kev where did you get the nitrile balls from?
Another question for the Foden guys. The third shaft is where the two chains meet, the stub shaft with two sprockets on it. How is yours lubricated, is there an oil pot or a grease fitting?
All the best

Re: Foden pump
I cover my third shaft with grease when I fitted it and with the amount of grease that needs to be going round on the chains it should stay lubricated.
