Which bracket do I use? Empty Which bracket do I use?

Post  Brian M Sun 30 Oct 2011, 6:56 pm

Hi All,

Just to solicit advice. After scratching my head over the original (slotted) belly tank bracket (the one attached to the boiler) and the incorrect slot arrangement. I have now discovered a replacement bracket in a later kit (with two holes). However, although the holes between the boiler and tank now align correctly, no holes match between the bracket and the belly tank? Shocked

I was just wondering, do I:
* have a third replacement bracket to come
* plug the first hole in the boiler and use the original bracket with one M6 stud
* ask STW to replace my replacement bracket?

Recently, I have been replacing parts or asking lots of questions to STW, so I was wondering what other people have done.

Thanks
Brian M

You have the front belly to Boiler bracket with the long slots. You should have at somepoint 2 new hornplate to belly tank brackets. These are longer in the hornplate side with 2 rows of bolt holes and a set of extra bolts.

So you actually need both the revised front bracket and the rear 2 brackets which went through 2 revisions.

Hi Lin,

I have attached the revised hornplate brackets to the belly tank, but I have realised the holes (on the base) of the revised front bracket have been incorrectly drilled. Therefore, the part that fixes to the boiler is out by a country mile. Shocked

All the best,

Just a thought, have you got the front brackets in the right order? The one that fits mine has a long slot so can be sited to accomodate any slight variations. Also thinking about how it looked is it possible to put it on the wrong way round as that would cause the front mount to be miles out??

Spoke to Steve today at STW, who will make a new bracket that fits, as it will only go in one way so I can not change it, which was my initial thought Shocked .

Thanks to all for your feedback!

Post a pic so we can see. My correct brackets can be seen in the pitures on Page 14 of my photo page.
Brackets on page 8 of my photo page shows the 2nd edition brackets that lowered the belly tank but did not move it forward.
The correct tender to belly brackets are angle iron with 1 row holes on the short leg with 2 rows of holes on the long leg.
My correct belly to boiler bracket has 2 long slots instead of pair of holes on the boiler end. Currently can not find a picture that show them clearly.

Am I barking up the wrong tree here, the brackets I mean are the ones bolted to the hornplates,
Are they modified or is it just the ones attached to the tank that have been revised?
Anyway, here are the brackets I have that bolt to the hornplates.
Part number BS 40903

THats the correct one for the horn plate. No modification to part.
You will get modifyed brackets for the belly tank end to bolt onto the pictured brackets.
So as far as I can see you are good to go.
