Weighshaft bracket Empty Weighshaft bracket

I’ve been looking at this part and not sure if it’s correct and a few other people have seen it on my Facebook page and asked the same question.....should there be a hole as shown on the pic?

Hi

No the bracket shown in the picture is correct. No hole in the lower casting area.

I am going to stick my neck out here and say there should be a hole there for the weight shaft

Hi Norfolk,
If you look at the production guides for 13 April, it says that there will be no hole.

If I remember correct. It is the same casting as the Agi so cheaper to just use existing patterns and casting order and cut the bits off that are not needed.

The explanation for the machining is also in the April 13 text. this part of the bracket is the datum for the other machining work and on completion the hole is plugged Greg if you look at the right hand end of the boss you can just make out the plug.
Also looking at the pictures of the aggy it seems to be a direct drive to the governor without the use of the lay-shaft arrangement.
The lay shaft is required on the showman's to transfer the drive from the centre of the crank shaft to the right hand side of the engine to align it with the governor drive.

yes the above is correct. this is made from the exact same casting as the Agi and does not have a hole. However the hole is the first thing done to the casting and is used as the datum point for all the other operations. without this hole i was faced with the prospect of making a whole new set of machining jigs, and for this part they are not simple. I spoke to Steve and he agreed that the best way to do things would be to drill the hole and simply plug it up at the end.

I cant tell you why the central "tube" section of the casting is still there, all i know is that it matches the drawings i was given Laughing  is it there because its simply easier for US to make it from the same casting or... did we simply copy Burrell and did they make it from the same casting?? this i don't know.

but yes, same casting, 90% same machining operations, hole drilled and then plugged Cool

here is the casting in one of the jigs. you can see the pin through the central hole. this sets the position of the casting in the jig so all other operations are relative to the hole. very important on the Agi...
