Tips for a Newbie
Hello everyone, I am just about to start on a 4" Burrell and I am really looking forward to it! I was just wondering if anyone has any helpful tips about building one? I work with the full size ones so I know a bit about steam but have got no experience in building any STW kits so any advice would be great
Thanks

The first time
Hi Ryan
My advice, for what it's worth, is resist the temptation to put it all together quickly to see what it looks like and instead plan to enjoy the build. Get every part as good as you can finish wise and take time to make it all fit nicely before moving on to the next stage. Don't count the hours, it's like reading a book, the story/journey is what it's all about.
Welcome aboard, it is habit forming!

Re: Tips for a Newbie
Thanks for the advice I will defo take it slow I am really looking forward to it. Am I right in thinking there is a book about building the Burrell?
A good book
Hi Ryan
Julia Olds produced a brilliant website on the build and steaming of her engine over approx 3 years. She then had it printed into a book which I believe she still has a few copies left. It is a good read with many hundreds of colour pictures showing the trials & tribulations of the first ever SC Burrells. I should point out that pretty much all the problems encountered have now been resolved with the new engines even so it proves an interesting read & well worth the money. Julia has a new project which is on Traction Talk (Gold Medal Tractor build) so anyone could PM her through that for a copy.

Re: Tips for a Newbie
My advise is to enjoy the journey - sometimes I find myself getting frustrated at slow progress and have to remind myself that the fun is in making it. Something I will probably miss when I have done it!

Got to be the Foden, after I had started the Road Loco my wife said she liked the lorries - so it seems rude not to do what your wife wants!

Hi
lol. Very good. So it is a 6" with a trailer to carry the traction engine?
I unfortunatly or fortunatly do not have the space for any more after the showman. Except for a couple of traction trailers if they will stack.
