TENDER TRY COCKS
Hi All,
I was not happy with the try cocks provided with the main reason that they were fake and didn't work.
I didn't want non working try cocks even if i wasn't going to use them much as so I looked at the options.
Option 1
Modify the ones provided.
another builder Tim Watson has done just this and they look nice.
here is picture of his creations
https://i.servimg.com/u/f69/14/59/25/36/photo_10.jpg
Option 2
Find someone who supplies them ready made.
I have found a supplier and have taken deliver of one to see what they are like on the engine.
They are made really well and work as the real thing.
They are bigger but having got one fitted they still look in scale.
The thread is 1/8" I have drilled oversize and used 1/8" lock nuts inside the tender to fixed the taps tight.
If anyone is interested you can find them at livesteammodels.co.uk

Re: TENDER TRY COCKS
Thanks Nick
Just found them on the website, £23 each, they look OK too on your photo.
Maybe a little to big compared to full size if you check out the photos on the STW CD but I would rather they work then look scale and glog up to easily. I think the STW ones are closer to scale if the spout is changed.

Re: TENDER TRY COCKS
I would agree with you on the scale front but they don't look out of place so i'm happy.
They are a little expensive but as they are hand turned i guess time is money.

Re: TENDER TRY COCKS
I'll have a bit of a modification to do here I think as they should be on the other side of the tender, and I agree these would be better if they were operational. On the other side of the tender at least only the steps will get wet when they are used. Thanks also for the link to the supplier. Will save a bit of hunting round to find some.

Just to avoid any confusion for builders, President has them on the right side. Also, it depends which prototype showmans engine people are building as to which side they are on for any specific engine. Ex-Mayor was a very unique engine built to a very specific requirment for Tubys.
I have a rear photo of one of the Anderton & Rowland Scenics at Dorset and there are no cocks on the left side - I am sure it is Earl Beatty but there is no registration plate at the rear and no nameplate visible. It says "Anderton & Rowland's Jungle Speedway" on the canopy.
A quick look on Steam Scenes shows King George V to have them on the right and also William V so Tim Watson is OK

Re: TENDER TRY COCKS
Thanks Brian
You are quite right of course. I should have said I am planning to build a "mini-mayor", and yes there are a small number of differences on ex-mayor to be changed during the build, some are easier to change than others and I hadn't spotted this one though. But it all adds to the challenge!!
Mind you if I can’t sort out the paint colour (which as you know was also a special colour) I’ll be rethinking the plan and going for a more traditional paint scheme.
By the way I like your lamps, but I also went for the M J Engineering lamps and have my fingers crossed they will fit.

Hi Nick,
Like the taps, I was going to buy three to replace those supplied by STW then I had a thought, (may be obvious to everyone), but you can only use two taps, as the middle one will inhibit the braking, or am I missing something?
All the best,
Brian M

Its fine.
Doesn't inhibit the brakes. comes close but you can wind the brakes fully on.

I did on Saturday night, helped Rob drive it back from the pub with Lee in the bunker (sorry Lee)
Daniel was on it on Sunday, she helped raising steam, oiling round, steered in the parade. I think Lee's wedding is back on again too. Nice family, spent some time chatting with Lee's dad putting the world to rights and with Lee about his latest project - 6" Fowler B6. Got the boiler inspectors name too.

PS: Is Dwain to busy painting? I don't recall any posts from him lately

Nobody is there to proof read his comments before they are posted .
He has to wait until his three old son is back from playgroup, by which time he has forgotten what he was going to post.
