Fitted the Towbar assembly yesterday.

SWB Foden build "Rosie" Towbar14

Spent the last couple of evening sanding (a power file is very useful), removing the sharp edges on the front axle and also given it the first coat of primer. Will post pictures when it is under coated.

Hi.
Just a couple of picture of what i have been up to.
both are of the front leaf spring which has been painted with Zinc primer hopefully to help stop the rust thing from happening.
The only thing i did do is machined down the metal block that clamps down the springs, just stuck out the side a little bit too much (milling machine).
I wanted to paint the springs refore fitting but if i did i would not have been able to fit them, very tight even with only the under coat on.
The spring are going to be painted black with the centre part staying red.
The rest of the front axle parts are is still being painted, a bit of a slow job but it keeps me busy.
Will post picture when ready.

Hi Phil

Looking good, ive had a problem with my right hand track rod arm, it rub's on the tyre as my tyres seem to be wider than the others provided, just a heads up for when you receive your wheels, Steve is working on a fix for mine so all is good

Indeed it does keep you out of trouble, just noticed an amendment i need to make to my previous post to you, its not the track rod that rubs its the ball join that goes on the track rod, the way to cure this was to have a new track rod made so the ball joint is further in

Another little picture of Rosies progress.

SWB Foden build "Rosie" Front_15

You have to be so careful when painting, if the parts are a tight fit before painting you have fun fitting them afterwards? Crying or Very sad
Thats why as people have already said on this forum "dry fit first".

Good morning everbody.
Here is the latest pictures of Rosie this time up side down (dry fit only).

SWB Foden build "Rosie" Rear_a10

SWB Foden build "Rosie" Rear_a11

Fun job cutting the rear springs but looking good so far.
Just needs painting which raises a question, Painting the springs.
The thickness of the paint will affect how they clamp together.
Any thoughts anyone?

the paint effected my front springs, in fact there is still one out that I will squeeze in once things settle.

The rear was no issue at all.

Hi Iain.
Thanks for the advice on the rear springs.
I painted each of the front springs with anti-corrosion primer paint (craftmaster) assembled them then painted them, even then it was tight.

I painted the mating faces of the springs with one of the antirusting sprays Phil, ACF I think, and then painted the outsides once they were assembled.

Looking good there phil, the springs look the perfect length as well deffo worth cutting them down, i took my front springs out to primer and undercoat then hammed them back in and top coated in situe, the rears i primered, undercoated then glossed apart and had no trouble assembling them, i had to cut the bolt down that goes through the middle as it was protruding through the rear wheel bearings.

Keep up the good work and the updates, she will be on her wheels in no time
