Hi Tim
A proud moment for everyone I am sure, looks well and probably a little grubby in certain areas now.
The oilers are very nice, are they the ones made from syringes you mentioned when I was your house?
I have just got my seat frame back from powder coating today so I will post a picture later, the extended regulator pivot is on the frame now, just the lever to make and connect with the appropriate rod.
Regards
Brian

Frederick had her hydraulic and steam test today at he NLSME. Both no dramas. The engine moved over the ground for the first time under it's own power today. One lap in bottom wheel and then straight into high wheel! She certainly covers the ground well and the starting button is brilliant.
Mike Randall made the comfy temporary bench seat, but I think Max would prefer his customary position on top of the bunker.

Good news indeed and it looks well running around in the sun. I think Max would not be to happy with his head under the canopy (unless it rains) as I am sure it would be hot under there. Also, he would end up driving if oyu do extend the regulator.
BTW I have put some pictures on my build page with the seat frame now done. The lever should be easy and with a buckle and a bit of rod we have an extended regulator for when your roof is on.
Cheers

Brian:
Not yet sure of the design for the extended regulator linkage. I can see how your design will duplicate the original set up and work well. I'm slightly more inclined to have something to the left and vertical, so that it doesn't interfere with coaling and/or Max. My roof will be very open at the back, with long removable hatches, so Max shouldn't get too hot. Also there are no rear cross pieces for the Showman's roof, which should improve access down the middle.

It is difficult to visualise that working without an additional lever of some sort to get the directrion of the forces in line with the regulator valve. I know we talked about joining the rod at the buckle on the end of the regulator valve rod but the angle you require may have an effect on the gland regarding wear and sealing - just a thought. Just putting a bend in the rod may not help because of the angle required. It may need a simple crank in the location of the front spectacle plate using the bolt holes currently used for the regulator and starting button rods. I can picture something but it would need sketching out and looking at it with the roof in place would help. Are you thingking of having the handle hang vertically from the rear roof cross member in the corner?

Brian:
I may not worry about the direction of travel of the extended regulator. I'll lash up some bits and play.
Re: gender of engines
I posted a thread on TT about this a short while ago. The consensus, was that all engines are a 'she' for a variety of reasons - cost, contrariness, beauty, etc. etc.

Silly labels
As I have the two controls for the blower and Windermere kettle protruding from the exciter bracket, I thought it would be good to label them so that a third scale driver would be able to know which was which.

I hope someone is with you to record some video of you on the road, I would love to see it and here how easy it is to get along in top gear compared to Madeline.

I forgot to ask, did you go to the SAC do at Old Warden with Fredric last weekend? Any photos?

Re: Frederick SRL(S)
The SAC weekend a fortnight ago was great fun, but the lubricator was playing up, so I didn't run very hard as the oil supply was intermittent. Jolly cold sleeping overnight in my non-insulated camper van!
Yesterday's run was very satisfactory. My son and I had a trundle round, more tweaks to the lubricator, re-tightened the horn plate bolts, then went to a very local pub for lunch with the family. They sat inside in the warm, whilst I sat outside adjusting the engine. The capacity and controlabilty of the boiler is so much easier than the agricultural engine. We then had an excellent run around the local roads. High wheel gives a really pleasant relaxed cruising speed, but you will need to use the hind wheel brake - which is very effective.
I will definitely fit an extended (ugly) steering knob. The regulator is reasonably reachable over the bunker and should remain so with the SRL, although my drivers, so far, have had long arms! It is great fun having a two man engine.

I thought this section of the forum was for photographs of your build? Its a shame that you don't seem to post any. I for one would love to see how you are progressing.
