wick oilers
Hi,
Just put my crank shaft bearings together and wondered what other people have used as wicks in the oilers. I have raided my mums bag of left over knitting wool and it all seems too thick to go into the oiler tube. Would a few strands of cotton wound together do the same job or can the oiler tube be done away with altogether and rely on gravity to get the oil where it needs to be.
regards
Andy

Re: wick oilers
I know this is reopening an old thread. I've just got to this stage and looked at the oiler tubes and thinking what on earth would work as a wick in that tiny hole? Just wondering what other 2in boulders have used and how well has it worked?

Re: wick oilers
Hi ho
You need to use worsted wool. Use thin copper wire to make holders for the wicks. This makes putting down the tube simple and also makes sure you get low enough. Don't use anything else other than copper in case you reach rotating items.

Re: wick oilers
Thanks for that Lynn. Only thing is on the 2in. The hole through the oiler tube is only about 0.5mm diameter. So I'm not sure how I can get even the thinnest rand of wool down it. And even if I can will there be any space left for the oil to get through?
