Foden Rear Axle Box Warning
just a quick warning that some people have managed to crack their rear axle box castings when fitting the square axel box clamp.
the central bolt should take all the pressure of the springs but it would seem there may be a clearance problem between the springs and the clamp, causing stress on the 4 bolts that hold it on, eventualy causing the axle box to break.
we are looking into this and will provide you with a solution (possibly a set of spacers).
for now, please do not continue to tighten the four blots if the clamp comes into contact with the springs.

Re: Foden Rear Axle Box Warning
after a lot of discussion today, Steve has decided to wait until the complete brake mechanism is in place before deciding what to do about this.
a set of spacers may provide a quick fix as far as clearance goes but it may not address the real problem.
for now... be careful

Re: Foden Rear Axle Box Warning
as i said, Steve wants to wait until the complete brake mech is in place before we decide what to do. if the Axel box castings have a weakness then any extra stress caused by using the brake may cause them to fail anyway, so simply creating "extra space" for the springs would be pointless. when we have ALL the facts, a decision will be made regarding a modification or possibly a replacement if needed.
so i cant really tell you any more for now, but your more than welcome to ask
