putting the front tires on

I know this has been covered before but (OMG)

Having got my workshop as warn as possible, which was sweaty warm.
i soaked the rubber in hot water for ages having been sat in front of the fire all day.
Bolted the rim to the table so it wouldn't move and had an extra pair of hands..

I have had to admit defeat as it took us so long just to get it no where near on, that the liquid rubber was going off....

Anyone got any tips ??????
It just looks near impossible to stretch the tyre the near 4" it needs to get on the rim even with the rubber really warm.

I'm going to have another crack at it and then if that doesn't work i'm going to have to do some serious overtime and get them vulcanized..

i'm kicking myself in a way as i couldn't afford the £146 a wheel as originally offered and now it's more like £200 a wheel..

I would clamp the wheel to my workmate through the axle hole. Position the tyre so that it is on the rim at one point. Hock a clamp over the rim & tyre to stop the start point coming off. Then with a pair of tyre levers start working around from the start point. You remove one lever and insert it a bit further around. Once both are in you will be able to remove one lever and insert in in front of the first. The secret is that the clamp stops the start point moving or coming off. I stand on the step on the workmate so that even single handed nothing moves. I have done several tyres this way and have not even got my cloves dirty.

They way I fit the tyres is to use about 5 or 6 cable ties to hold as much of the tyre on the rim before I stretch the rest of it. I use two tyre levers about 18" long kit plus a small tyre lever. I lean over the wheel and tyre and with the two long tyre levers stretch the tyre as far as I can and hold them in place with my shoulders, that leaves both hands free to use the small tyre lever to ease the rest of the tyre on. It usually just pops on fairly easily then. I put a piece of pipe in the vice to spin the wheel on and hold it horizontal. Also the rim & tyre is prepared with a belt sander with a 60 grit belt so there ia plenty of grip for the adhesive. Once the tyre is on I then transfer it quickly to a B&D workmate with a piece of horizontal pipe in it so that I can spin the wheel vertically and clean it up nicely. I then leave it in that position (suspended) for at least 48 hours to cure. I did struggle at first until I used the cable tie method so hope it helps, having the tyre warm helps too but it is difficult to get it anything other than luke warm this time of year!

Steve i used your method and by standing on the edge of the rim managed to pop the tyre over the last bit of rim...
