Trial Fit of Waterpump
Hi All,
Today a did a trial fit of my water pump and it’s drive mechanism. I havent got the crank shaft fitted as I thought it would be much easier to fit the water pump without the crank in place.
When I fitted it all together with the eccentric oiler in place and all bolted up I spun the gear on the end of the shaft and came across two problems.
1. As I stin the eccentric it’s oiler hits the front spectacle plate and fowls on it. I have noticed this won’t cause a problem on the showman’s engines because their spectacle plate has bigger holes cut out but has anyone had the same problem with their road locos which don’t have the big holes cut out.
Second problem is when the eccentric is fully forward making the ram fully forward the ram is then grounding out.
Has anyone got any ideas on how to sort this problem out.
I am afraid I didn’t get any photos although I might be able to tomorrow

Re: Trial Fit of Waterpump
Hi,
As for the piston bottoming out, I cannot say anything right now but on PIED PIPER I also faced the (long) oiler hitting the spectacle plate. I then just bent the hollow stud so to move the oiler back towards the crankshaft, it's locked with nuts anyways so it stays this way.
Cheers
Elwood

Re Water Pump
Hi, Elwood,
Thank you for the reply. My initial idea was to do that but I wasn’t sure. Thank you for the reassurance.

Hi all
Having another look the ram isnt bottoming out but just going tight as it goes in
Is this normal or have I got something wrong?

Re: Trial Fit of Waterpump
For the oiler hitting I’m sure a copper pipe was supplied that screwed into the eccentric and oiler and allowed it to be bent away from the spectacle plate.

Hi
Have you got any packing in the gland yet? If so then yes it is normal as the gland will push the packing against the ram to make it water tight.
Many thanks
